Job Description:

The Agriculture Technology Department in the Faculty of Science at the University of the Fraser Valley invite applications for one-year limited-term faculty appointment.

 

The successful applicant will teach or co-teach a total of seven (7) course sections for the academic year, distributed between fall, winter and/or summer semesters. The courses taught will focus on the livestock sciences and will include:

  • Agri 237 Introduction to the Health of Farm Animals (offered in Fall and Summer);
  • Agri 239 Management and Production of Beef, Sheep and Goats (offered in Winter);
  • Agri 254 Ruminant Animal Health (offered in Winter);
  • Agri 256 Management and Production of Poultry and Swine (offered in Fall);
  • Agri 331 Dairy Herd Management: Science and Practice (offered in Winter). 

 

The candidate will co-teach two courses with permanent faculty in the department – Agri 192 Practicum I (offered in Winter) and Agri 328 Forage Crop Production: Science and Practice (offered in Winter). In addition to expertise in the courses listed above, the Department is seeking a collegial and energetic individual with exceptional communication skills, with a passion for integrating both theory and practice with a focus on both current best practices and future skills. Incorporating Indigenous perspectives in the curriculum is essential, as is teaching international students and managing the needs of a diverse learning environment.

 

Most courses integrate classroom activities (e.g., lectures and discussions) with opportunities for hands-on learning in the on-campus demonstration barn on the Chilliwack campus. For online instruction, UFV uses Blackboard as its learning platform along with Zoom and other applications. Refer to the Teaching and Learning Centre website for more information about how UFV supports innovative pedagogies. 

The primary role of this position is to teach, but the successful applicant is also expected to contribute service to the department and faculty. We are especially interested in candidates who can further develop connections with high schools and local 4H clubs.

 

Duties of Limited Term faculty fall within Article 18.2 (Teaching Faculty Duties) of the Collective Agreement, specifically the Teaching and Service components.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have a terminal degree in Animal Science or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution along with a recent record of excellence in teaching and research. Experience working with livestock producers and on commercial farms is an asset.
