Summary: This position is responsible for making recommendations to customers regarding seed, crop nutrients, and crop protection products, and for the sale of agronomy products along with custom application and precision ag services.
Key Roles:
Sales Growth & Retention
- Prospect, build and maintain positive working relationships with current and potential customers
- Make sound product and services recommendations to customers to improve their operation
- Enhance vendor relationships and implement programs in the sales area with focus on growing the overall sales of the Agronomy department
Value Creation
- Represent yourself as a problem solver to provide value added solutions for customers
- Establish and implement business and marketing solutions with customers
- Help coordinate and oversee the marketing of all agronomy sales and services
Customer Acquisition & Concentration
- Continually gather and monitor information on competition and market trends
- Communicate with Agronomy Sales Manager to develop and enhance the performance of the agronomy department
- Develop and lead the implementation of strategic marketing plans to enhance market share
- Develop regular sales call strategies with assigned customers and prospects
Customer Relationships
- Provide superior service to both current and existing customers
- Resolve all issues in both the company’s and the customer’s best interest
- Profile and target key customers to attain achievable growth through increased market share by implementing marketing programs set by agronomy management
Professional Development
- Possess and maintain knowledge of agronomy related products/programs and the agronomy industry
- Attend meetings, training, professional development, and continuing education opportunities
Safety
- Hold self and others accountable to safety policies and safe behaviors
- Maintain a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient computer skills with ability to learn other computer programs

- Ability to read and interpret required documents
- Experience with SSI Agvance, Climate, SMS, and/or related experience
- Knowledge of agronomic seed, chemical, and fertilizer product portfolios
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license
- Class B CDL required (Class A CDL with HazMat preferred) (training will be provided if necessary)
- Certified Crop Advisor Certification preferred
- State of Illinois Commercial Applicator License required (training will be provided if necessary)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Plant and Soil Science, or related field required
- One to three years of agronomy sales experience
Working Conditions:
Position operates in both an outdoor environment and an office environment. Requires sitting and standing for prolonged periods, working on a computer, and exposure to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, chemicals, and internal and external temperature/weather conditions (from -20 to +100 degrees). Employee must be willing to work weekends, seasonal hours, holidays, and overtime if needed.
