What your day looks like: 

The role functions as a consultant and technical advisor to bird growers and egg producers and will also be responsible for day-to-day supervision of Field Technicians and Flock Service Advisors as assigned by the Director of Layer Operations or Production ManagerIn addition, the incumbent should serve as a coach and trainer to these team members.   This individual will monitor the flock records, provide poultry health services, and advise the producer or team members regarding Wenger's feeding program and general flock management. The Layer Flock Supervisor is responsible for motivating and achieving positive change in growers and producers and fostering strong and productive relationships within our Dutchland Farms network. 
  • Supervise assigned flock service advisors and field technicians. 
  • Train and coach assigned flock service advisors and field technicians as needed. 
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new producers in geography as assigned. 
  • Ensure adherence to Wenger policies, methods, and disciplines.  
  • Review weekly flock records for all assigned producers in geography assignedIdentify challenges to be addressed with Director of Layer Operations and/or Production Manager and on farm personnel. 
  • Review weekly pullet flock records for pullet grows that will eventually be transferred to layer barns in area of responsibility. 
  • Monitor, perform and respond to bird weight and uniformity, mortality, feed consumption, and blood sampling. 
  • Work with Labs to get flock diseases diagnosed. 
  • Make sure the house is properly prepared for new flocks. 
  • Monitor and respond to house cleanliness, ventilation, feeding and water system, and fly and rodent control problems including monitoring the SE plan/PEQAP program and any applicable animal welfare programs. 
  • Collaborate and make recommendations to house personal to ensure bird health and successful production. 
  • Follow the philosophy of Wenger's feed program and Dutchland Farms Layer and Pullet Program    
  • Recommend and order various feeds and treatments in coordination with management and on-site personnel. 
  • Keep informed of recent developments in the poultry industry through literature and training sessions. 
  • Complies and follows company requirements regarding biosecurity, food safety, and poultry welfare programs and policies always. 
  • Sampling of flocks (blood, swabs, etc.) on a timely basis as required. 
  • Understand, implement, complete, and enforce Dutchland programs, biosecurity plans, food safety requirements and animal welfare programs. 
  • Monitors progress of flocks by weighing, visits, and/or communication 
  • Resolves conflicts that may arise and communicate proactively on all production challenges. 
  • Maintain Certified Poultry Technicians License for Pennsylvania and other certifications for Live Bird Market  
  • Charge out services as described by the Dutchland Farm Flock Services form. 
  • Perform all other duties necessary to complete the job  
 
Who you are: 
  • Associate degree in agriculture-related curriculum; bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience in poultry management). 
  • High school diploma (required)  
  • Working knowledge of bird health, nutrition, house and flock management, industry regulations, etc. 
  • Knowledge of bird health and house management (or 5-7 years in related role - preferred) 
  • Certified Poultry Technician for PA and for blood sampling for NY/NJ live bird markets (or obtaining within 90 days of hire) 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 
  • Strong organization, problem solving, and communication skills. 
  • Willingness to devote to the position whatever is needed to get the job done. 
  • Flexibility to assist in other areas of service as needed. 
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize duties, and work with minimal direct supervision. 
  • Ability to lift to 60 pounds. 
  • Ability to climb ladder
