Farm Manager

Ames, Oklahoma

 

Farm Managers will assign duties to Department Heads and when needed Farm Associates. The Farm Manager is responsible for the necessary animal husbandry for the livestock and maintenance of the farm as well as meeting financial or budgeted targets. Ensuring the farm hits other assigned metrics and goals. Farm managers are responsible for ensuring that their teams are properly trained on company policies and procedures and are expected to hold their teams accountable for completing the daily tasks within the assigned times and ensuring processes are completed per work instructions.

 

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following):

  • Ensure the effective and efficient operation of all sow farm procedures.
  • Plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of Department Heads and Farm Associates in the production procedures.
  • Ensure employees abide by and follow all company policies and processes and ensure that employees are held accountable for their performance and actions.
  • Recommend improvements or revisions in the production’s procedures.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of employees by following company safety policies and ensuring all laws, regulations and directions are followed and safety training program implemented effectively.
  • Monitor and proper implementation of biosecurity practices, ensure that all risk points are fixed or identified.
  • Train personnel in the methods of production within the current production protocol.
  • Train personnel in the animal husbandry and maintenance or the farm
  • Monitor the health, feeding, and overall well-being of all animals.
  • Ensure that records are maintained regarding production of the farm:
    • Animal movement forms
    • Animal treatment forms
    • Death loss form
    • Weekly/monthly inventory report
  • Monitor ventilations within the farm ensuring that livestock are in the proper climate.
  • Use handheld or desktop computers to input information pertaining to the livestock within the department.
  • Monitor conception rate of the livestock.
  • Monitor farrowing rates of the livestock.
  • Ensure the proper flow of animals throughout the production process.
  • Ensures that all animals have feed and water daily.
  • Monitors and adjust feeders for optimum performance of livestock within the farm.
  • Feed animals, by using the automatic feeding system and/or manually feed the livestock.
  • Examines animals to detect illness and injuries report all concerns to herd veterinarian within a timely manner.
  • Ensures that estrus detection of female pigs is completed accurately to identify proper heat.
  • Ensure that artificially inseminates process of female pigs is performed within company guidelines.
  • Ensure vaccinations are completed timely and delivered appropriately per health team directions.
  • Timely Attending to animals during and after birth of offspring. (When Possible)
  • Ensure processing of piglets is completed timely and per health team direction:
    • Surgically removes testes to castrate.
    • Surgically removes tails.
    • Clips identifying notches or symbols on animals, attaching tags to the ear, and/or tattoos animals.
  • Maintains proper hygiene in faculties.
    • Thoroughly washes rooms using portable high pressure hot /or cold washers.
    • Scrapes aisles behind pigs to remove excess fecal matter.
    • Removes all carcasses and/or afterbirth.
    • All offices and storage facilities to maintained in a professional and organized way.
    • Showers and entry processes to be properly stocked and prepped for daily use by all visitors and employees.
  • Minor repairs equipment, buildings, crates, and pens or requesting repairs on larger systems. Ensuring all ventilation, feed, water, animals housing, wastewater, electrical and plumbing systems work correctly daily. Report observed issues to the appropriate maintenance personnel and monitor work order system to ensure facility is properly maintained.
  • Timely Euthanasia of animals when necessary, following all PQA and company guidelines.
  • All other assigned duties.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day to day supervision of Department Heads and Farm Associates.

 

Qualifications:

  • Three months’ experience as Department Head, or equivalent work or educational experience.

 

Educations and/or Experience

  • Minimum High School education, some secondary education preferred.

 

Language skills:

  • Basic English, some Spanish preferred.

 

Mathematical skills:

  • Elementary math needed.

 

Reasoning ability:

  • Identify and Prioritize work to be within the department.
  • Assign tasks.
  • Must be able to follow instructions.

 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • None.
