Soules Family Farms is now hiring for the role of Farm Manager.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The farm manager is responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of row production on a daily basis. This role requires a deep understanding of crop management practices, strong leadership skills to supervise farm workers, and the ability to make informed decisions to ensure optimal row crop production.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
- General Management: Supervise daily operations on the farm, ensuring that all activities comply with standard operating procedures. Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including planting schedules, crop treatments, and harvest yields. Manage inventory of supplies, such as seed, fertilizer, and equipment.
- Field Operations Management: Supervise and coordinate all field operations related to crop production, including field preparation, planting, cultivation, spraying, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, and pest management. Monitor crop health and growth stages to optimize yield and quality. Develop annual crop plans. Maintain and operate farm equipment, ensuring proper usage and maintenance.
- Team Leadership and Supervision: Lead, train, and supervise a team, ensuring adherence to safety and best practices. Provide guidance and training as needed. Schedule and delegate tasks to team members, ensuring timely completion of all farm operations. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Budget and Resource Management: Optimize resource utilization to achieve maximum efficiency and profitability. Implement cost-savings where possible and monitor expenses. Manage budget allocations for crop production, labor, and equipment. Evaluate crop production metrics to assess performance indicators to optimize yield, efficiency, and profitability.
- Technology Integration: Evaluate and implement technological solutions to improve farming practices, including AgYield, John Deere Ops, Climate FieldView, and the utilization of drones. Collaborate with farm operations teams to identify technological needs and opportunities for improvement. Implement and maintain farm management software systems to monitor crops, soil health, irrigation systems, and machinery.
- Strategic Planning: Adapt to market trends and changing economic conditions. Develop long-term goals and strategies for the farm. Identify opportunities for growth and diversification.
