Project Manager-Engineer's perform broad and varied project management duties. Responsible for managing projects, and ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget and to the customer's expectations. Oversees technical details of assigned Sackett-Waconia projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Responsible for all phases of a project from the project kick-off meeting through start-up / commissioning.
  • Communicate with Customers and Sales to clarify the desired outcome of a project.
  • Manage client expectations, taking their interests into account.
  • Act as primary point of contact and work closely with external project stakeholders including the customer, builder, millwrights, automation specialists and electricians.
  • Manage project personnel to achieve project objectives.
  • Regularly review and analyze the project scope. Identify risks, monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain Project Schedule through completion.
  • Per customer order, perform application and design engineering on a variety of fertilizer equipment which includes conveying, blending, granulation, and compaction.
  • Provide necessary guidance for mechanical engineers, designers, drafters to perform project design work.
  • Submit General Arrangement layout drawings to customer and obtain approval.
  • Check all work performed by mechanical engineers, designers, drafters on projects including part and assembly drawings, BOMs, packets for millwrights, and packets for the customer.
  • Work with engineering support staff to release drawings to manufacturing.
  • Coordinate work with other departments within the organization.
  • Prepare and maintain controls and automation documents for projects.
  • Execute the deliverables while ensuring that the highest quality standards are met.
  • Provide guidance to millwrights and other third-party contractors to ensure proper equipment installation and startup.
  • Handle issues and questions from the field in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist in the creation of equipment design standards.
  • Work in new product development groups to design new features and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Solid mechanical design background with the ability to perform design/layout work in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to travel to and work at project sites during various project stages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Strong work ethic.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years relevant experience preferred, but open to entry level candidates.
  • Possesses qualities such as productivity, dependability, resourcefulness, efficiency, and professionalism.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 years of experience in machine/equipment design.
  • 2 years of experience in project management.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks or comparable software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the agriculture, fertilizer or construction trades industries.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
  • Previous project manager experience.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Experience in agriculture, material handling, material blending or fertilizer industry.
     

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
Works primarily from an office at our Maryland or Minnesota facility and at project sites when necessary. Project site visits for system commissioning typically last several days up to a week or more in rare cases. Project sites are typically domestic, sometimes central or South America, and in rare cases other parts of the world. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer, cell phone, printer, calculator and copy machine.

  • To have adequate vision to accommodate frequent viewing of computer screens, print reports and customer account cards and ledgers.
  • To work at job installs, climb ladders on equipment, ability to maneuver in and around equipment, dexterity to handle tools required for installs.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
