Job Description:

Position: Sales Agronomist

 

Location:This position will be based out of NW Nevada or NE California (Reno, NV area). Service for the area comes out of Winnemucca primarily, but the position is to service growers in western Nevada and north eastern California.

 

Purpose:The position is responsible for sourcing, servicing, and nurturing customer relationships through sales and timely delivery of products designed to meet their needs and exceed their expectations.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Safely perform assigned work and look out for the safety of others

 

Sales

  • Achieve revenue and gross profit targets while helping customers succeed by:
  • Building productive, long-term relationships with farmer customers
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of the customers' business
  • Planning sales contacts that present solutions and value to customers
  • Partnering with other industry leaders to identify customers and sell consulting services
  • Managing customer credit and accounts receivables to help customers make good financial decisions
  • Optimizing strategic sales planning and time allocation through understanding customer matrix
  • Prioritize prospects and partial customers to identify the best opportunities for growth

 

Service

  • Work with farm managers to meets customer goals by:
  • Identifying crop problems (disease, insect, weeds, or soil problems)
  • Soil and petiole testing
  • Make regular visits to customers’ fields
  • Understand, explain, and use capabilities of soils
  • Develop pest management strategy
  • Provide a consistent and regular communication channel between customers and RMA personnel in order to set proper service expectation levels and schedule delivery of product
  • Work with customers to resolve product or service complaints fairly and equitably
  • Make sound agronomic recommendations in-line with RMA philosophies to customers by presenting solutions, products, services, and/or concepts in order to maximize returns for the customers
  • Meet regularly with customers during on and off seasons to create crop plans, analyze results, update maps, etc.

 

Personal Improvement

  • Continuously increase knowledge of agriculture, agronomy, sales and marketing and RMA's products and services
  • Research in crop productivity, seed, fertility or crop protection products, etc.
  • Study and understand the effects of alternative practices on soil productivity
  • Learn to diagnose physiological problems of plants due to nutrient levels or pests

 

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Periodically forecast sales volumes for inventory planning and budget projections
  • Monitor and evaluate potential accounts receivable risks on current and potential customers in order to minimize the company’s accounts receivable risk exposure. Also assist in collections when necessary
  • Participate and be present for agronomist meetings monthly (this is mandatory attendance – the 3rd Wednesday of every month)
  • Work as a team for the betterment of the whole by sharing knowledge and skills with other agronomists
  • Complete other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, crop science, or related field
  • Ability to prioritize operations in light of multiple priorities and conflicting demands
  • Pest Control Adviser License (California)
  • 5 years of agronomy/crop consulting experience 
  • Team player with an ability to lead and direct support personnel when necessary
  • Excellent communication skills

 

Requirements:

  • Sit, stand, lift frequently; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Bend, twist, climb, reach, kneel, crawl frequently
  • Typical visual and auditory abilities required (with or without medically prescribed correction)
