SUMMARY
Preferred Capital Management provides fully outsourced turnkey management of sow facilities in MN, IA and SD. Our clients hire us to manage the sow herds necessary to produce the weaned pigs they need for their pig finishing operations. We manage over 20 entities with various ownership.
In addition to the on-site labor and veterinary services, we also handle all the accounting for each entity. Our accounting staff in our Fairmont office manages the bank accounts, A/R and invoicing, A/P and bill payments, and internal monthly financials. The controller role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and the following responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Update and oversee daily/weekly transactional accounting tasks: cash management, A/R, A/P
- Provide clarity and consistent methods of data entry into Acumatica to ensure that month-end financials are accurate
- Perform month-end close for every entity by 15th of following month, using current month-end checklist
- Lead weekly Finance L10 meetings
- Update existing monthly forecasts for all operating entities with actual financials
- Meet with vet liaison for each operating entity to review prior month-end and updated forecast, update assumptions for forecast months
- Prepare financial forecast and YTD financials for vet liaison to present to entity owners and monthly entity board meetings
- Join monthly entity owners meeting as requested by vet liaisons
- Prepare documents needed for annual tax returns for each entity
- Prepare documents needed for year-end compiled financial statements for operating entities
- Create written SOPs for all finance and accounting tasks
- Develop, implement and maintain financial controls, and guidelines
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions
- Support HR and IT functions as requested
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Develop a robust monthly feed audit and analysis to verify feed invoices are correct for quantity and price
- Develop appropriate operational and financial KPIs and build into forecast templates
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity, using EOS principles and processes
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Ten or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
- Strong understanding of monthly internal accounting processes
- Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
- Experience in managing accounting teams, with focus on documenting and streamlining accounting processes
- Exemplary history of financial project management
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Controller is accountable to PCM and FVC CEO
- Controller is responsible to the vet liaison for each entity
