Ranch General Manager - 2024

SUPPORT STAFF:                                     

Ranch Foreman, Ranch Staff

 

CLASSIFICATION:                                   

Full-Time

 

WORKING HOURS:                                   

  • As required (normally 40+ hours per week)
  • Weekends as needed and on-site during ownership and guest visits.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Ranch Manager will provide leadership and direct staff in all aspects of ranch operations.  This position will be responsible for the oversight, care and upkeep of the ranch, including livestock operations, sod operations and recreational aspects.   


PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Plan ahead for seasonality, agriculture and biology needs of operation.
  • Plan ahead and prepare for owners and guests to be at ranch.
  • Look for new and creative ways to manage/utilize the land and assets, including potential new revenue streams.
  • Communicate with and prepare staff for daily operations.
  • Ability to move with urgency and speed.
  • Supervise ranch staff and contract labor, including but not limited to, cowboys, mechanical and landscape.
  • Lead ranch staff by example through direct contact, hands-on work and assisting staff with all aspects of the operation.
  • Assume responsibilities of ranch staff in their absence.
  • Develop operational checklists, training programs, schedules and evaluations.
  • Implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs for staff.
  • Establish solid relationships with local vendors and business owners.
  • Monitor and maintain all mechanical systems.
  • Establish proficient use of all equipment, tools and vehicles.
  • Communicate with direct report and ownership regarding any operational issues.
  • Develop and manage operating budget including monthly inventory guidelines and P&L statements. 
  • Operate in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. 
  • Maintain all records in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to visually and physically inspect all aspects of the ranch operation.
  • Work flexible hours and weekends as needed.
  • Perform physical activities not limited to; walking, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to use logical and rational thinking to solve problems.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal expression, as well as carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to monitor and develop support staff.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work, may be required to lift 60 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • CPR Certification.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works primarily at the ranch.
  • Able to transition from working outside to an office setting.
  • Expected to represent Pentecost Ranch at industry specific meetings.
  • Works with equipment, tools, chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers with potential exposure if proper safety procedures are not followed.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture and/or related fields. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in agriculture management and effectively managing groups of people. 
  • Exceptional problem solving, providing high level customer and personal service, a history of meeting high quality standards and directing and assessing a team to meet the same high standards.
