Job Description:

Assistant Farm Manager

Looking for an Assistant Farm Manager to oversee the operations of a 75-acre property that includes 13 acres of blueberry bushes, 700 young and maturing chestnut trees and an animal operation with a small number of animals.

There is also a small campground on site that hosts guests for farm stays. The Assistant Farm Manager will be expected to maintain the upkeep of the grounds and to maintain the farm stay sites.

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in all aspects of running the day-to-day responsibilities of North Star Farm. This position will both supervise and participate in the growing and harvesting of organic produce as well as taking care of a small number of animals and a 4 unit glamping site.

Farming often includes arduous labor in varying weather conditions. Farming will require this position to bend, pull, push, stoop and stand for long periods of time.

 

Requirements

  • Oversee the growth and production of a new farm moving into a mature farm
  • Oversee the hiring and management of seasonal crew for farm maintenance and harvest
  • Oversee the glampgrounds, restocking farm store and firewood, light cleaning and maintenance
  • Oversee glampgound cleaning staff
  • Develop and maintain a good professional relationship with members of the community
  • Ensure premium quality of all produce leaving the farm and curating an aesthetically beautiful farm space
  • Maintain frequent and consistent communications with senior management
  • Create and execute short-term and long-term onsite projects
  • Maintain the irrigation system to ensure proper watering and fertigation of fields
  • Mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance
  • Maintain sanitary, safe, and organized work and storage areas
  • Computer literate and competent using Microsoft Excel and Google Drive
  • Create and present programs, plans, strategies, costing, etc.
  • Ability to process and analyze data (i.e. soil testing)
  • Keeping up with requirements of the NOFA-NY organic certification
  • Experience in implementing regenerative farming practices is a plus
  • Experience with blueberries is a plus
  • Must have valid driver’s license and pass background check
  • Bilingual Spanish required
