The Maintenance Manager plans, directs and coordinates various duties related to maintenance, repair services, and infrastructure improvements of land, plant, and equipment at the Brodhead campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide strong leadership by taking responsibility for the performance of the department, including timely completion of projects, preventative maintenance (PM), work order (WO) requests, and providing guidance in decisions to be made by the maintenance/facilities staff.
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to maximize equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime. Create and maintain detailed preventive maintenance schedules for all manufacturing machinery and ensure timely execution.
- Utilize maintenance data and trends to refine preventive measures and improve machinery reliability and maintenance costs.
- Establish and enforce best practices for preventive maintenance to enhance operational efficiency and safety
- Allocate resources efficiently to support maintenance initiatives, while managing costs.
- Identify and implement innovative maintenance technologies, such as predictive maintenance tools, to stay ahead of equipment wear and tear.
- Understand and develop countermeasures for unplanned maintenance activities
- Organize construction/general facilities activities with impacted managers to minimize production delays or downtime
- Manage various size projects, concurrently from inception through project close-out, by working with internal and external resources. Ensure project(s) are delivered on schedule and within budget, while consistently communicating project status effectively to all stake holders.
- Identify, mitigate, and control project risk, developing contingency plans to mitigate risk factors.
- Maintain current knowledge on all physical and procedural safety and environmental compliance factors that are relevant to maintaining a safe facility, campus, and all equipment used in manufacturing.
- Promote the importance of maintaining work areas in a clean and orderly fashion, as well as conformance to all quality and safety procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and structure staff to optimize short- and long-term resource competency levels. Establish processes and execute procedural or assign training for new maintenance employees. Ensure update or refresher training for all maintenance employees occurs to meet all safety and regulatory requirements. Performing employee performance evaluations and maintaining employee time records, etc.
- Train and mentor maintenance staff in preventive maintenance techniques and ensure adherence to protocols.
- Direct, coordinate and supervise the assigned Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Assistants, Janitors, or others assigned to the maintenance team, providing appropriate support, guidance and discipline to achieve department and individual objectives.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees: planning, assigning, and directing work; performance management, addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
- Communicate and lead significant change efforts by delegating tasks, setting expectations, and holding employees accountable for results.
- Maintain communication with other departments and project teams, provide written reports as required, and actively participate in department and staff meetings.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and/or Experience -
- A Bachelor's Degree in industrial technology, manufacturing engineering or other related degree with 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience is preferred or a vocational diploma in electro/mechanical maintenance and a minimum of 5 to 10 years of maintenance and repair experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience is acceptable.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in manufacturing equipment, such as electro-mechanical maintenance and repair of machine tools (including CNC), 480 volt 3 phase electrical power systems, hydraulic repairs & operating knowledge of fabrication tools (presses, shears, brakes & welders), HVAC system repair, basic plumbing, PC controls/diagnostics/troubleshooting, AC/DC servo drives & electric motors, overhead crane inspection/repair and paint systems troubleshooting/repair
- Strong expertise in preventive maintenance strategies and their application in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of reducing downtime and improving machinery efficiency through preventive measures.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
