Job Summary

The Seasonal Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating agricultural machinery and equipment to support various farming activities, such as seeding, harvesting, and field maintenance. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Operation: Operate tractors, combines, air drills, sprayers, and other farm machinery to perform tasks such as seeding, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting crops.
Field Preparation: Use appropriate equipment to prepare fields for planting by harrowing, discing, or tilling soil.
Crop Maintenance: Assist in crop maintenance activities such as fertilization and pest control as directed by the Director of Operations.
Harvesting: Operate harvesting equipment during peak seasons to efficiently harvest crops, ensuring proper handling and storage procedures are followed.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the Manager, Repair and Maintenance.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while operating machinery and handling chemicals or equipment. Participate in safety training programs and promote a safety culture within the farm operation.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate work records, including field activities, equipment usage, and crop yields. Assist with data collection for reporting and analysis purposes.
Teamwork: Collaborate with farm colleagues to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient farm operations. Communicate effectively with team members to prioritize work and address issues or concerns.
Quality Control: Monitor crop quality and harvesting procedures to ensure that crops meet established size, maturity, and condition standards.
Environmental Stewardship: Follow sustainable farming practices and environmental guidelines to minimize impact on natural resources and promote soil and water conservation.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating farm machinery and equipment preferred.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of basic farm practices, including seeding, land preparation, and harvesting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Flexible and reliable.


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to assist on the grain farm during peak seasons.
  • Must be willing to learn and operate other farming equipment as required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Flexibility to work long hours and weekends during peak season.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
