This person would work closely with the Upper Management of Heimerl Farms, PIC Representatives and HF Gilt Selection Officers, and Dr. Specht.

 

Job would include but not all inclusive the following:

  • Barn supervision of certain geographical area and/or flow of pigs
  • Make visits once a week to assigned barns to evaluate health of pigs and overall environmental conditions
  • Strong communication with farmers on health of pigs, shipment of pigs, tagging requirements for gilt sales
  • Strong communication with HF vet team and gilt officers on completion of selection, gilt inventories
  • Maintain gilt inventories for your specific multiplication gilt flows
  • Help record and evaluate rejects coming into barns as weaner and feeder pigs – turned in timely
  • Maintain accurate pig counts for each barn
  • Fill out paperwork as required for barn visit reports, gilt selection information, ear tag identification, etc.
  • Gilt selection for customer orders - Turn in ear tag numbers in a timely manner for health paper generation
  • Final selection of gilts along with paperwork in folders to the specific barns
  • Communicate to the farmers on any changes in orders of gilts and/or trucking changes for gilt orders
  • Maintain accurate updates of your barns for marketing
  • Identify market animals that do not qualify for gilt sales in a timely manner according to Heimerl Farms marketing grid program
  • Identify clean out loads including culls from barns timely to maintain current flow of pigs into barn for next group and allow adequate time for washing/disinfection by farmer.
  • Help update auditing/PQA information for each farmer
  • Help with blood collection/oral fluid sampling from barns
  • Communicate with vet team on sample collection that day and help ensure UPS package is delivered
  • Perform necropsies as directed by Dr. Specht if barns are having health issues
  • Be able to work independently and see ahead and adjust schedule as needed to get all tasks completed in time.
  • Help track any barns that are seeing high death loss and report immediately to Dr. Specht
  • Fill out expense/mileage reports, along with PIC billing at the end of each month
  • Get re-certified each year on gilt selection by PIC
  • Help maintain communication between HF and PIC
  • Help with PIC biosecurity updates and requirements for your specific barns
  • Must follow all biosecurity protocols set forth by Heimerl Farms (i.e. shower in facilities). 
  • Attend and participate in weekly conference calls on Wednesday mornings
  • Attend and participate in service team meetings usually every month – two months
