Summary

ProFarm Group (PFG) is a subsidiary of Bioceres Crop Solutions, a global provider of biologically derived fertilizers, inoculants, crop traits, adjuvants, biostimulants and pesticides, serving the ever-expanding agricultural markets. PFG focuses on discovering, developing, and marketing nature-derived biostimulants, as well as pest management products from microbes and plant extracts for the effective control of invertebrate pests, weeds, and plant diseases.

ProFarm Group is seeking an intern in the Dept. of Microbiology and Plant Pathology to assist with laboratory studies related to the development of microbial biopesticides. The intern will support scientists in a variety of laboratory experimentation as required, with a focus on general microbiology, plant pathology and molecular biology techniques.
 

Responsibilities And Duties
 

  • Culture and isolation of microbes using general liquid and solid media as well as selective media.
  • Perform DNA and RNA extractions from microbes and plants
  • Perform quantitative PCR, conventional PCR and analyze results with gel electrophoresis
  • Analyze samples using Qubit and NanoDrop
  • Assist scientists with setup and takedown of bioassays in greenhouse, conviron and lab based settings
  • Assist with other general microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • Prepare materials needed for experiments such as various types of media, buffers, etc.
  • Record data and results in an organized fashion.
  • Keep the laboratory clean and organized (clean glassware, growing containers, benches and floors as needed).
  • Other duties as assigned
     

Qualifications
 

  • Currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. Preferably, an emphasis in microbiology, plant pathology, biotechnology or a related field.
  • Hands-on lab experience (through classes or an internship)?a plus
  • A professional and positive attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Good time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • Commitment to work at least 15 hours per week during the school year
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with help or independently occasionally.
