Job Description:

 

A rare opportunity for a progressive, farm manager to take the reins of a renowned university farm with a large dairy herd.

 

The farm is over 700 hectares in size and predominantly livestock focused – dairy and beef, with grass and cereals being grown for feed and crop trials. As a university farm, its primary purpose is to support teaching and research and therefore you will be involved in trials and research projects.

 

As Farm Manager you will be responsible for day to day management of the farm, budgeting, health and safety and ensuring the farm maximises its commercial viability whilst supporting its academic purpose.

 

The successful candidate will be an experienced farm manager with excellent leadership and communication skills – not only will you manage the farm team but you will also work closely with a variety of people including lecturers, researchers and students at times.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee farm operations
  • Manage farm budget
  • Purchase inputs, machinery and equipment
  • Work closely with research and teaching colleagues
  • Team leadership – support and mentor staff
  • Ensure high levels of farm health and safety
  • Ensure compliance with farm assurance schemes
  • Record keeping
  • Subsidy, grant and stewardship applications

 

About you:

  • Forward thinking and familiar with sustainable farming practices
  • Previous farm management experience
  • Previous people management experience
  • Strong dairy farming knowledge
  • Beef and arable farming knowledge (Desirable)
  • FACTS & BASIS (Desirable)
  • UK driving licence
