Job Description:

The Global Seed Operations organization is currently looking for a Production Research Scientist. This role is aimed at identifying opportunities/needs for specific research to solve key seed production challenges in Europe. This role will be based in Parndorf, Austria or Aussonne, France.

Role intent

  • Provide leadership in identifying, designing, planning, and executing innovative research to address current and future seed production practices focusing on factors that impact seed quantity, quality, production reliability and COGs (cost of goods sold).
  • Prioritize strategic projects that deliver the largest return on invested time and resources.
  • Be an integral part of the SPRC European team (Seed Production Research and Characterization) to work together on common projects to support the Seed Production teams. Close collaboration with SPRC colleagues in other regions of the world.
  • Collaborate with Field Excellence and Digital Teams to provide research based agronomic and best practice information to local production field teams.
  • Main crops: Corn and Sunflower.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and coordinate projects to understand positive and negative impact on seed production.
  • Execute focused research to solve key seed production challenges regionally.
  • Support the implementation of new agronomic technologies and techniques to optimize seed quality, quality, and reliability.
  • Design and create protocols for all experiments. Complete data analysis, interpretation, and final research progress report for documentation and knowledge sharing of research results. Assist with editing internal research progress reports as a peer reviewer.
  • Serves as a technical specialist for Seed Production function; communicate and establish desired improvements/practices and production recommendations to production field teams.
  • In direct coordination with seed field education team, develop appropriate education materials on best management practices for production of seed crops where appropriate.
  • Identify, establish, and maintain a mentor relationship with key leadership individual(s) to maintain exposure and leverage a diversity of thought and experience outside research.

Candidate profile:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Agricultural science and 3-5 years Production experience.
  • Broad technical knowledge of agronomy and/or plant physiology/breeding, statistics, field and seed conditioning equipment, and a perspective of seed customer and grower needs.
  • Demonstrated applied research design and analysis skills with experience in summarizing research trial results; Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new programs and data management systems.
  • Demonstrated personal leadership, supervision/management and organizational skills; Ability to take personal initiative and work effectively in teams.
  • Capable of working with complex quantities of data and analyses. Ability to manage complex program requirements to deliver against a diverse and varied set of Production Research projects.
  • Innovative, resourceful, and driven
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated a significant record of success over a three - five years period.
  • Understanding of the seed business
  • Readiness for occasional international business travel (25% of time)
  • Driver license required
  • Fluency in English
