Job Description:

Corteva Agriscience offers an exciting and challenging opportunity in the Predictive Safety Center (PSC) within Crop Protection Regulatory Science for a Senior Investigative Toxicologist, focusing on the development of new approach methodologies to predict in vivo relevant potential mechanisms of toxicity. The toxicologist will represent the PSC function on multidisciplinary Discovery and Regulatory teams responsible for development and registration of new active ingredients and agricultural products. This is a laboratory-based position located in Indianapolis, IN.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently generate plan for hypothesis-driven research to predict and understand potential mechanisms of toxicity supporting the design of planet-friendly new active ingredients.
  • Design, build and characterize novel in vivo relevant human in vitro model and ex vivo platforms. In addition to human models, contribute to building and optimizing additional mammalian species in vitro models as relevant to understand cross species translatability and mechanistic understanding of species-specific toxicities.
  • Collaborate with external academia, government and industrial partners to explore and implement new predictive toxicology approaches (e.g. in silico, in vitro, systems toxicology).
  • Oversee in vivo and in vitro toxicity studies at internal or external laboratories to assess product safety including protocol preparation, interaction with lab scientists, critical evaluation of data, problem solving, and reporting of results.
  • Provide expert support on safety assessment in the development of new active ingredients or formulation technologies based upon toxicology data and regulatory requirements.
  • Clearly communicate toxicology testing strategy and results in both written and oral format.
  • Represent Corteva at professional meetings, training and workshops, and industry task forces of special interest to the business.
  • Publish and present scientific information at meetings and in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Toxicology or related biological discipline.
  • Strong experience in the new approach methodologies development is required.
  • Strong scientific background and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities to manage and coordinate multiple projects and chemistries.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience to creatively address complex predictive toxicology challenges in a timely and effective manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that allow dissemination of complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner to a variety of scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including negotiation, conflict resolution, influencing and motivational skills.
  • Keen interest in working in a dynamic, exciting industry and applying scientific information for protection of human health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience as principal investigator or team/project lead is required.
  • Extensive experience in science communication, including preparation of research manuscripts is required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment - exchanging ideas with colleagues, sharing workload, and interacting with supervisors.
