We have an exciting opportunity for a Seed Quality Testing Analyst?in Johnston, Iowa at our Beal Seed Quality Lab. Our Beal team is a wonderful, diverse, inclusive group and we work in a fast-paced environment.

    This role will be on site at the Corteva location. 

    What You'll Do: 

  • Responsible for managing laboratory safety and executing seed quality testing operations within Sample-Sizing, Plant ability, and Receiving departments. This position will be approximately 20% allocated to lab safety and 80% seed quality testing operations.
  • Support Research and Seed Production & Supply Chain Operations by conducting seed quality testing relating to Sample-Sizing, Characterization, and Plant ability. Supply reliable quality data to key stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner. Monitor testing to ensure that activities adhere to all Corteva Policies, Procedures, and Business Objectives. Determine testing workloads, prepare lab schedules, and coordinate priorities with quality testing team management in accordance with customer needs.
  • Assist in supervision of Sample-Sizing, Plant ability, Receiving, and contingent personnel. Ensure employees maintain a proper and safe working environment and that appropriate safety procedures are followed.  Administer training and conduct performance and proficiency evaluations for sizing lab employees and contract personnel.
  • Schedule testing, assign work, and allocate resources in a way to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.  Collaborate with Research, Seed Production, and Supply Chain teams to prioritize workloads and execute testing to meet stakeholder needs. Provide oversight and assist with Seed Quality Testing processes relating to sample-sizing, plant ability, receiving, sample preparation, seed treating/conditioning, seed quality analysis, and data entry.   
  • Provide accurate and timely data to seed production/supply chain, research, Quality Testing personnel, and other key stakeholders. Assist in analysis and management of data and provide interpretive analysis to customer teams. Provide technical support, expertise, and training to Corteva personnel as appropriate.
  • Operate, Troubleshoot, and Manage Quality-critical testing equipment. Maintain schedule and record of equipment repair and calibration.  Monitor technical equipment to ensure proper operation in accordance with internal and external standards.
  • Collaborate with Global SQT labs, site personnel, and key stakeholders in developing standardized protocols for quality testing processes and ensure proper documentation is in place. May assist in germination, special testing as needed.
  • Support the site's commitment to ZERO occupational injuries or illnesses and environmental incidents.  Demonstrate a strong commitment and leadership in all areas of safety, health and environmental excellence.
  • Develop, implement, and administer safety programs in accordance with corporate and regulatory guidelines, policies, and standards to provide a safe working environment and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and government jurisdictions.
  • Conduct new employee orientation, safety training and contractor safety onboarding processes.
  • Review facility operations and consult with site management, site safety committee, EHS&S networks and laboratory employees to identify unsafe working conditions and develop appropriate controls or alternatives.
  • Manage and lead incident investigations, reporting, record-keeping, and metrics according to corporate guidelines.
  • Coordinate audits, self-assessments, and safety inspections on EHS&S programs and compliance issues.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and reporting EHS&S metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Manage site safety committee and incident/emergency response, including First Aid, CPR, and AED skills and certifications.

  • Education:  

  • You have your High School Diploma/GED

  • What Skills You Need: 
  • Adept in data management and analytics (SAP, Microsoft Excel, and Power BI).
  • Experience managing workplace safety programs.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adjust time management to deliver results and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational acumen.
  • Work compatibly as an individual, team, and cross team in diverse work environments.
  • Applied experience with Quality Management Systems and process improvement methodologies.
  • Possession or ability to obtain commercial pesticide applicators license.
  • What Makes You Stand Out: 

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, biology, environmental science, occupational safety or related field.
  • 4+ years professional experience in seed quality testing, production agriculture, occupational safety or related field.
  • Knowledge of seed quality testing, production agriculture and technical planting/research equipment.
  • Advanced mechanical skills and understanding of equipment systems. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues with technical equipment.
