Job Description:

Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Seed Production Technician to join our team in Hermiston, Oregon. As a Seed Production Technician, you will provide support for a variety of activities including IMPACT Seed Production and Processing activities.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Support seed drying and conditioning operations including receiving, husking, shelling, pre-cleaner, discharge, moisture sampling and forklift support.
  • Learn to run treater, PLC, color sorter, seed cleaner and other seed processing equipment.
  • Provide support for these and other processing activities. 
  • Provide inventory management and shipping support as needed. 
  • Provide support for planting, plot maintenance, roguing, data collection, detasseling and harvesting operations according to established protocols and timelines.
  • The Seed Production Technician will be primarily responsible for assisting in seed processing activities including harvest and processing duties such as drying, shelling, conditioning, inventory management, and treating and packaging seed.
  • May lead an entire process (such as conditioning) including supervision of temporary staff, product flow, equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Support shipping/receiving, interplant inventory movement, assists with warehousing and inventory management of bulk and bagged seed, etc. 
  • Support general repair and maintenance activities.
  • Successful candidate will also support planting, scouting, field maintenance, roguing, detasseling, pest control, data collection and other field and warehouse activities as needed.
  • The Technician will facilitate a positive working relationship with growers, other staff members and labor contractors.

 

What Skills You Need:

  • High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years on-the-job or related ag experience
  • Driver’s license with good driving record
  • Good safety and risk management habits
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including shift work and overtime hours including weekend work required during seasonal peaks
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to work well with co-workers, temp labor, contractors, etc.
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to make independent decisions
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willing and able to work in a variety of areas (field, plant, warehouse)
  • Willing and able to lift up to 60lbs and complete work that involves repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting.
  • Willing and able to work both outdoors and indoors in cold, hot, wet, and dry conditions.
  •  Must be willing/able to work evening shifts during harvest (September – October). 

 

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Willing to obtain a Class A CDL.
  • Forklift experience
  • Associates or higher in related field
  • Previous training on field scouting
  • Leadership experience
  • Knowledge of production agriculture and production plant operations
  • Knowledge of field equipment and techniques (planting, cultivating, irrigation, cutting, wheel-pulling, delays, scouting, etc.)
  • Experience operating conditioning and packaging equipment.
  • Experience using handheld scanners for inventory management
  • Ability to do basic equipment maintenance
