Under supervision of the Facility Services & Real Estate Engineering Leader, The Run Plant Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for site operations to ensure safe and reliable operations of the facilities located at Indianapolis. The Run Plant engineer is to lead project identification and execution for FS&RE supported projects. At this experience level the Electrical Run Plant engineer will typically lead small to intermediate sized projects (definition of small and intermediate) locally or regionally to support FS&RE improvement & maintenance.
As part of an empowered team, the qualified candidate must communicate and collaborate well within a diverse working environment which includes scientists, lab personnel, contractors, managers, and internal skilled craftsman personnel. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a group as necessary is essential for success in this position.
While this position is located at the Global Business Center in Indianapolis, you will have the flexibility of working two days per week remotely.
KEY REPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical expertise to site operations on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
- Provide project engineering support to project managers on capital projects for FS&RE.
- Collaborate with multi-functions to develop improvement opportunities for new projects.
- Provide project support for reliability focused projects.
- Perform project development with key stakeholders.
- Provide overall planning and organizing during the design and construction of FS&RE projects.
- Coordinate all design engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
- Lead the project execution planning including contracting strategy development.
- Analyze project risk and develop mitigation plans.
- Manage project budgets and financial forecasts for all capital spending
- Manage contractors’ orders, invoices and spending, working with procurement team to ensure all policies are met.
- Drive project execution and take corrective action to ensure the project goals are met.
- Deliver as built and operations/maintenance documentation to the facility.
- Execute engineering work orders from planning through execution.
- Closely follow jobs to ensure safety and quality expectations are met.
- Gain in depth understanding of current building systems and infrastructures to properly propose and implement repairs and upgrades.
- Provide technical support and involve site SMEs and supplier/vendors as needed for projects.
- Provide technical support for specification, identification, and purchasing of needed parts.
- Provide expertise on failures during root cause investigations.
- Work closely with the site’s EHS&S team to ensure projects and engineering work orders are designed, planned and completed safely.
- Other duties as become necessary to support company goals and/or projects.
- Generate reliability improvement ideas and work with other team members to maintain the equipment reliability of the facility.
- Develop and execute short-, medium- and long-term maintenance strategy for systems life cycle management, identifying critical systems and guiding repair versus replacement decision.
- Provide technical direction to R&D, operations, and maintenance staff.
- Understand and utilize the safe work processes including safe work permits, energy isolation, confined space, and line and equipment opening.
- Coordinates work with others
- Utilize CMMS system (i.e., Maximo), project management best practices, or similar to manage work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1+ years of relevant engineering experience in an R&D or industrial facility.
- Strong aptitude and desire for innovation and operation excellence.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational and work coordination skills, and interpersonal skills are critical to role success.
- Safety certifications/qualifications preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding infrastructure and building systems including but not limited to site utilities, security, building management, R&D operations, environmental, insectary, R&D sciences, greenhouses, and a vast variety of research laboratories.
- Individuals must be self-motivated, have demonstrated personal initiative, have excellent organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
- Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Interested in learning new skills, gaining knowledge of Corteva business processes and investigation new technologies to support cutting-edge projects.
- Change management expertise is required.
- Strong aptitude and desire for innovation and operation excellence.
- Safety certifications/qualifications preferred.
- Interested in learning new skills, gaining knowledge of facility equipment and systems
EDUCATION:
- A bachelor’s degree: electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Must have the ability to interpret technical vendor literature (i.e. Installation, Maintenance and Operation manuals) and transfer this information independently and effectively to critical work processes.
- Proficiency with Building Management Systems
- A working knowledge of piping and instrument drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment drawings, and similar.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems: e.g. Maximo, emaint.
- Use of the standard Microsoft applications - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
SOFT SKILLS:
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum direct supervision.
- Great time management skills including the ability to manage a substantial workload.
- Interpersonal skills for developing a client base and working in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and desire to expand knowledge.
