This position supports the trait integration and population development seed counting operations in Salinas' Center. It is responsible for the execution of tasks within seed inventory, top progeny selection, harvest assign, and planting preparation for all the crops/projects within TIPD. The position also works hand in hand with the Specialist and Supervisor to ensure resources and supplies needed are available to meet team goals in an effective and efficient way.  Collaboration with other Department areas such as field, laboratory and greenhouses and promotion of a continued process improvement environment is expected.

What Skills You Need:

  • Performs seed counting duties from planting to shipments, including but not limited to seed inventory management, planting preparation, field planting, harvest assign and top progeny selection.

  • Follows the correct procedures / steps on all assigned tasks to ensure personal safety and that of others.

  • Always ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Provides daily updates to Specialist including areas of the processes that could be troublesome, trying to identify the source of the issue to help reduce errors.

  • Offers ideas and suggestions for process improvement.

  • Supports the training and leading of contingent workers.

  • Manages and analyzes research data either collected or received in the area.

  • Maintains and promotes strong relationships with internal and external teams.

  • Provide examples of no more than two problems or issues most frequently encountered by a person in this job.

  • Rearrange daily work order due to priority changes or absences during work peaks.       

  • Provide examples of no more than two types of decisions routinely made on the job including the results/outcomes of those decisions.

  • Determine whether components meet the minimum requirements to be moved to next step in the process according to the project that it belongs to.

What Skills You Need:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of related experience required

  • Ability to enter data into a computer is required.

  • Ability to lead part-time labor is required.

  • Ability to understand written English is desired.

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a deadline driven environment.
