We have an exciting opportunity for a Seed Product Development (SPD) Community Safety Specialist to join our company at the Grimes, Iowa Research Center. The Safety Specialist is an integral part of our Global Safety Communities and will work closely with our Research Center Operations Leads in the Seed Packaging Sites, as well as our Safety Community partners in EHS&S. We are looking for candidates who take the initiative, love to learn, work hard, and have a stable work history.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist Seed Packaging Sites within the Safety Community with Standard implementation, revisions, and tracking.
  • Leads the transition of Standards & Policies into safety excellence in our seasonal activities.
  • Coordinate the harmonization and standardization of SOPs across all packaging sites, assist in reviewing documents and conducting risk assessments.
  • Ensures training programs are adequate, consistent, and updated across the Community.
  • Train and mentor full-time, part-time, seasonal, and contingent staff.
  • Co-leads Safety Community meetings with EHS&S Community Lead.
  • Builds SPD work activity acumen within EHS&S.
  • Bridges Standards to behaviors and choices.
  • Ensure that facility safety and security policies are communicated, followed, and enforced.
  • Attend regional safety meetings as needed.
  • Lead local staff safety meetings as requested.

What Skills You Need:

  • Desirable Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish)
  • 5 years of related education and/or related work experience (i.e. training, operations, manufacturing agriculture, warehousing, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable creating and facilitating training for both large and small groups.
  • Excel at working independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience and proven proficiency in computer systems and programs including (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and tend to pick up quickly on new software and digital applications.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrate skills in leadership and time management.
  • Willing and able to have a flexible work schedule with the availability to support off shift teams as needed to provide training and serve as a safety resource.
  • Additional hours and weekends during seasonal peak periods, including some overnight stays and travel to other stations that you support.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a safety-related field. 
  • Subject matter expertise of SPD day to day and seasonal work activities and safe operations.
  • Willingness/ability to gain certification in basic Occupational Health and Safety Training (OSHA 10 or OSHA 30)
  • Willingness/ability to gain certifications in Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
