Corteva is seeking to hire an R&D Shop Operations & Safety Coordinator for our Blair Shop, located in Des Moines, Iowa. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Blair shop. This includes ensuring a safe working environment, inventory management, coordinating maintenance of fabrication equipment, and monitoring the truck dock and receiving materials/machines.
What You'll Do:
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Champion shop safety activities (Equipment SoP development, trainings, audits, rollout safety program updates), including providing primary ownership of Blair facility applicable Corteva safety programs, in collaboration with the engineering safety team.
- Encourage and enforce shop cleanliness and organization.
- Maintain accurate and accessible recordkeeping (PM schedules, Vendor Contacts, Audits, Inventory, Safety Metrics, Compliance, Registrations, etc).
General Shop Coordination:
- Develop and manage the shop expenses.
- Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures.
- Oversee inventory management and procurement of materials.
- Liaison with building and facilities to manage issues with snow removal, pest control, waste removal, recycling.
- Liaison with safety representative for compliance and record keeping.
- Collaborate with engineering team members and leadership on procedures and policy.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of fabrication equipment.
- Schedule regular preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Ensure all equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
- Manage schedules and vendors for metal recycling, hazardous material disposal, etc.
Dock and Receiving:
- Monitor the truck dock to ensure efficient loading and unloading of materials.
- Oversee the receiving of materials and machines.
- Operate forklift to load/unload shipments and move materials within the shop.
- Facilitate building maintenance and repairs.
- Manage shop visitors and tours.
What Skills You Need:
- Knowledge of fabrication processes, equipment, and materials is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong documentation skills - experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the shop for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work in an R&D industrial shop environment.
Work Environment:
- The role is primarily based in a metal fabrication shop environment.
- 5 days a week on site, 8 hours per day.
