Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Production Agronomist position based in Wingham, Ontario at our parent canola production facility. As the Production Agronomist, you'll be responsible for safe, effective, and efficient management of field seed production processes and you will assist with ensuring quality specs are met in the field and production plant. Utilize your communication skills to establish and build relationships with growers, contractors, and vendors. Strategic thinking and analysis are critical as you will be responsible for the oversight of acreage planning, strategy, and resource allocation for field activities. This role will be on-site at our Wingham, Ontario location.

  • Develop cost effective, environmentally sound methods of enhancing yield and quality.
  • Keep in touch of current agronomic practices and environmental issues related to all phases of seed production to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work in accordance with government certifying agencies to assure all standards are met.
  • Be involved in all aspects of grower relations, including but not limited to acreage allocations, contracts, and conflict resolution.
  • Establish and maintaining relationships with growers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Management of parent canola seed production fields.
  • Manage seasonal field personnel and activities.
  • Operate field equipment such as tractors, planters, small combines.
  • Provide leadership in strategic planning, safety and quality at the production plant.
  • Serve as technical expert and analyzer of data across a broad range of production activity.
  • Collaborate with other business personnel within research, production and commercial.
  • Meet targeted yields and other planning parameters.
  • Establish and support individual and team performance goals that are attainable and aligned with business strategy.
  • Ability to work and manage additional hours and days during seasonal peaks.
  • Sponsor projects, team members, timelines, and deliverables to ensure productivity objectives are met.

Requirements:

What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy, agribusiness or related discipline.
  • 1-2 years or more of experience in agronomy, field science, agribusiness, or other related fields.
  • Possess some general seed production skills.
  • Keen willingness to learn new things and collaborate with a team.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license in good standing.
  • Some experience with operating farm equipment or ability to learn.
  • Some overnight travel for business meetings.
  • Organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Possess skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in both a field and office environment.
  • Develop and sustain high-performing field team.
  • Computer Skills (office suite products) & data analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Produce a high yielding quality crop year in and year out while engaging in company safety standards.
  • Passionate about agronomy and agriculture.

Preferences:

  • Experience in recruiting growers.
  • Knowledge of quality and safety programs.
  • Possess a Certified Crop Advisor license or ability to obtain.
