Job Description:

Corteva Agriscience is seeking a talented and enthusiastic scientist to join the Mode of Action & Characterization Sciences Center located in Indianapolis, IN. The individual will contribute to our goal of developing sustainable Crop Health solutions by conducting research studies to support the development of novel small molecules and biological solutions in the R&D pipeline.?The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments using various microscopy methods, analyze data, and interpret results. The candidate must work well in a team, network across disciplines, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Expertise in cryo-electron microscopy and electron diffraction is required, along with skills in traditional light and electron microscopy.  

Responsibilities - What You will Do:

  • Utilize advanced cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to elucidate the structures of purified proteins and protein-ligand complexes. 
  • Employ microED techniques to determine the structures of novel synthetic small molecules and natural products. 
  • Provide training to fellow scientists on sample preparation, image acquisition, and analysis techniques specific to cryo-EM. 
  • Implement a variety of microscopy methods including widefield and confocal fluorescence microscopy, FE-SEM, and polarization microscopy. 
  • Conduct immunolocalization, histochemistry, and cytochemistry, along with fixation, embedding, and sectioning of diverse biological samples across different media types. 
  • Use image analysis software to quantify and interpret image data effectively. 
  • Work as an integral member of the Microscopy team to design and execute imaging experiments that address critical research questions. 
  • Analyze and communicate research findings comprehensively, both in written reports and oral presentations, to relevant stakeholders. 
  • Follow Corteva laboratory safety practices to ensure a safe work environment.? 

What Skills You Need:

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, paired with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in cryo-EM, alongside expertise in light and electron microscopy. 
  • Proficient in cryogenic sample preparation, image acquisition, and analysis techniques relevant to single particle analysis and electron diffraction. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Strong record of independent work and the ability to drive projects to successful completion. 
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders from diverse scientific backgrounds.
