We are looking for a responsible and highly motivated?Plant Breeding Specialist?to join the Research and Development team in Janesville, WI.?The specialist is an integral member of the multi-crop and cross-functional research center committed to supporting corn nurseries and soybean evaluations.

What You'll Do:

  • Source and fill incoming seed orders from other facilities

  • Complete seed shipments to meet deadlines and all internal and external requirements

  • Assist with the field management of the nursery plots, scouting for disease, pests and weeds

  • Manage crew corn pollination and hand harvest

  • Learn company software to complete planting, harvest, seed handling and shipping tasks

  • Assist with operations to maintain an accurate inventory of seed at the facility

  • Use technology, including drones, ipads and modern software tools to conduct field research experiments

  • Potentially operate agricultural research equipment. This includes tractors, forklifts, and research combines

  • During critical times, like planting, pollinating and harvest; weekend work and overtime will be required for the success of the research program. 

  • Effectively communicate with growers, coworkers, key customers and management

  • May manage and direct the work of temporary and seasonal employees

  • Maintain and improve the efficiency and safety of daily workplace operations

  • Provide support for other research projects as assigned

What Skills You Need:

  • Minimum education of an Associate's degree in agriculture or a science-related field with 1-2 years of industry-related experience required. Bachelor's degree in agriculture or a science-related field preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork, enhance a positive work environment, and develop strong internal and external working relationships with a diverse group of people.

  • Strong experience and skills with computers and data management.

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, operational safety, supervision, and time management.

  • Must be capable of working in varied ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time, and capable of lifting 50 pounds.

  • Desire to grow together, as the company is dynamic and always evolving.

  • Ability to work extended days and weekends at critical times of the season.

  • High level of organization and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Self-motivation and ability to initiate and execute projects, improvements, decisions, and problem-solving.

  • Ability to work independently while setting high expectations.
