This Phenotyping Specialist position will work with the testing team to provide phenotyping support on high priority programs. The Associate ensures all advanced phenotyping related activities are planned and collected in a timely manner according to company standards and protocols. The phenotyping specialist will work to ensure all phenotyping data is processed, uploaded, and quality checked for all crops at the center prior to advancements.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the Ops Lead and regional team to plan collection, timing, and execution of all phenotyping notes for Corn, Cotton and soy for the Monroe, LA center.

  • Work with Ops Lead and agronomy team to plan locations based on restricted flight areas, create flight plans based on trait protocols, monitor GDU's for flight timings, and schedule drone flights.

  • Work with team members to maintain collaborative contacts between Station Ops Lead and regional Breeding scientists to ensure research goals are met to expectations.

  • Have a general understanding/interest in learning about the application/use of mapping software, statistics, use of GPS/GIS systems, advanced drone technology, image analysis, and have an open mindset for learning beyond current experiences and knowledge.

  • Help with seed lab activities including spreadsheet manipulation, seed sorting, inventorying, and supervision of hourly employees.

  • Will be an integrated member of the Monroe, LA Team, participate in regional safety committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs, and comply with all center and company policies.

  • Maintain phenotyping equipment and work with regional phenotyping leads/logistic leads to ensure equipment is available when needed.

  • Periods of extended work hours and overnight travel during planting and harvest will be required.

  • Identify improvements in procedures and protocols within allotted time constraints.

  • Identify appropriate and efficient uses of station research project resources.

  • Trouble shoot phenotyping equipment issues and help to develop new protocols if needed.

  • Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments that reflect Company Policies.

  • Decide priority of work activities to meet assigned deadlines, balancing all assigned projects.

What Skills You Need:

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 years industry related experience.

  • Must have or be able to attain a FAA Part 107 drone license.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills organizational skills and computer skills/experience.

  • Excellent personal interaction skills and ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people.

  • Must be capable of doing physical lifting (up to 50lbs).

  • Must have a clean driving record.
