Corteva Agriscience is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee our Molecular Plant Pathology Laboratory located in Palmas, Brazil. This role is critical to enabling molecular diagnosis innovation for several crops and to support the development of new genetic materials. We are seeking a professional with strong expertise in molecular plant pathology tools who is passionate about using science to protect plant health and accelerate agricultural discovery. The Lab Leader will serve as the connection point between pathology teams, global molecular lab, local scientists and international colleagues. This role plays a vital role in delivering high-quality seed for research while shaping the future of agriculture in Brazil.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the Molecular Plant Pathology Laboratory and supervise the operations.
· Apply and oversee molecular diagnostic tools (PCR, qPCR, real-time PCR, sequencing) for pathogen detection and diagnoses.
· Develop, implement, and validate new molecular makers and methods to improve diagnosing protocols. Finally, prepare standardized protocols across pathology teams.
· Establish strong collaboration with Corteva's Genotyping Laboratories (in and out of Brazil) to synergistically create innovation projects.
· Become member of the Corteva´s plant pathology-controlled environment pathology team and conducts greenhouse experiments adapting procedures as required and focused on operational excellence.
· Collaborate with members of the Brazil Plant Pathology team supporting Plant Breeding organization and other subfunctions to develop strong commercial products, implement and execute Corteva strategies.
· Work closely with the North America Pathology team to share and exchange experiences and, more importantly, focus com assay validation.
· Manage different projects, prepare technical reports, traceability records, and ensure rapid, accurate data turnaround to meet field scientists' deadlines.
· Implement opportunities to improve workflows, methods, and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· Foster a strong safety culture, actively engaging in EHS&S programs at the Palmas Research Center.
· Collaborate across cross-functional teams to forecast demand, plan resources, and manage timelines effectively.
· Perform administrative tasks related to demand forecasting, resource planning, and timeline control, working effectively within cross-functional teams.
· Develop and meet quality standards and follow biosafety requirements. Assure regulated experiments that meet all requirements.
· Follow phytosanitary standards developed by Official Phytosanitary Agencies.
Job Qualifications & Requirements:
• Education:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Biology, or related fields.
Master's degree in plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology or related fields (Ph.D. preferred).
• Experience:
Hands-on experience in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Molecular markers or Plant breeding areas.
Demonstrated strong understanding of plant pathogens, plant diseases assays, experimental design, planning, coordination & execution of such experiments.
Demonstrated experience with molecular tools with a focus on molecular markers.
International experience is preferred.
Demonstrated history of working in complex environments that require teamwork.
• Skills & Competencies:
Advanced proficiency in English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in Portuguese and English.
Proven ability to work collaboratively.
Innovative, resourceful, and driven.
Proactive in problem-solving.
Solid knowledge of data analysis, computer systems, and software tools.
Valid driver's license (Category B).
Availability to reside in Palmas or Porto Nacional is required.
