Leads collaborative efforts across LA and AP regional functional groups in the Seed Business to facilitate alignment of Seed Production and Global Seed Operations (GSO) capital investments are closely aligned with business strategy and objectives related to new product launches, asset capacity and utilization optimization, adoption of new technology, and/or asset reliability.

Interfaces with regional and portfolio leaders to champion capital management best practices, including coordination of cross-regional (GSO) prioritization following the Corteva Capital Signature Process.

Cooperates with and engages technical competencies to ensure alignment with broader technical/technology strategies.

LA Specifics: Interfaces with local Controllership, TAX and global Permanent Investment teams to ensure appropriate and accurate accounting/financial controls for the regional ongoing projects.

Typical Responsibilities

The Regional Seed Engineering Investment Consultant (R-EIC) for LA and AP regions serves as a key advisor for GSO level strategic planning, including but not limited to resource allocation, investment portfolio structure and prioritization, and initiative development.

Coordinates compilation of the 5-year and CY+1 capital budget requests, aligned with the Global Engineering Investment Consultant, ensuring projects in all Growth, Improvement, and Sustain categories are thoroughly vetted, aligned with regional business strategy with key stakeholder support, and backed up by strong business case analysis.

Establishes value added work processes and tools to facilitate standardized documentation of capital needs across regions and, as appropriate, functions within the Seed Business, allowing for consistent prioritization and Change Management Process, while maximizing capital investment value in support of business objectives. 

Support cross-functional teams as necessary to develop appropriate documentation and financial modeling as required to meet Capital Signature Process requirements of Growth and Improvement investment opportunities.

Develop a functional-level framework for capital planning and project authorization which allows for appropriate levels of autonomy in accordance with Corteva Delegation of Authority standards, and meets Capital Signature Process governance.

Managing collection and global prioritization of the regional "First-Off" and "Next-on" project lists with supporting data as required to maximize effectiveness and flexibility of the capital portfolio.

Cascade Global Capital Planning Benchmarks to Regional perspective: Analysis and visualization of planning and spending benchmarks shown as various KPIs (e.g., CAPEX as % of Sales); include Estimated Replacement Values and indices for chosen spend targets for Sustaining capital (including subcategories of L&C/EHS&S/R&M).

Regional EIC is responsible for use and integration of Global Engineering KPIs in planning and reporting processes and drives decomposition of metrics or KPIs into regional equivalents.

Project-level Early Front-end Loading (Early FEL or FEL0): All projects >$500M must go through a process of defining business objectives and major drivers.  R-EIC responsible for supporting Latin America to:

  • Develop best practices and necessary templates/tools to adequately develop project objectives, preliminary scope, schedule, and costs
  • Serve as independent facilitator for Scrubs/BEAMs for projects >$500M, as needed
  • Direct and coordinate development of Business Cases and, when required, White Papers for Growth and Improvement projects
  • Current Year Capital Tracking: monthly consolidation of the Cash Flow and One Pager reports. Responsible for analyzing and communicating spending fluctuations.
  • Continuous improvement / tracking tools: responsible for creating and/or keeping tracking tools updated for PMs and CELs (excel files, PowerBI dashboards, etc).

Collaborate with the Global EIC as Product Owner for the Capital Planning Management System ("CPMS") for site-specific bottoms-up capital planning.  Maintain and sustain software tool(s) and training.  Coordinate support and maintenance with appropriate IT resources or secure funding and support from external contractors.

Latin America specific Capital Execution Support (estimate of 40-50% of time for role): In addition to the responsibilities above, the Regional Seed Engineering Investment Consultant will provide support to the Latin America & APAC Capital Execution Leader and team as follows.

  • Accounting/Financial project controls: Interfaces with local Controllership, TAX and global Permanent Investment teams to ensure appropriate and accurate accounting/financial controls for the regional ongoing projects. Ensure timely capitalization of projects
  • Tax Credit Reclaiming: evaluate TAX credit reclaiming opportunities in Brazil and coordinate this process and controls for capital projects in Brazil. Continuous interface with TAX.

Perform any other essential duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations and/or business administration. Advanced degree is desirable (MBA or functional equivalent)
  • +5 years of seed industry experience with expertise in engineering, operations, capex portfolio management, project controls, forecasting and/or continuous improvement
  • 3+ years of financial analysis including Income Statements, Cash Flow and Profitability NPV/IRR calculations
  • English and Spanish Languages. Position will require solid ability to communicate (conversation, reading, writing) complex conversations in English and Spanish languages
  • Establish effective communication with all stakeholders
  • Good organization, prioritization and time-management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple subjects simultaneously
