Job Description:

Corteva Agriscience is seeking a dynamic and experienced Formulation Technology Lead with specialized expertise in high-throughput (HTP) formulation preparation, characterization, optimization, and lab automation. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of research, commercial, and operations personnel to design and develop HTP capabilities and workflows, supporting the development and launch of innovative crop health formulations and delivery systems for traditional and biological actives.

 

As an HTP and lab automation expert, the individual will leverage extensive lab automation knowledge and advanced data analytical tools to lead the identification, evaluation, acquisition, and integration of cutting-edge characterization and automation tools. This will significantly enhance the selection and evaluation of coformulants and ensure robust formulation performance. Additionally, the individual will provide subject matter expertise (SME) and support for technology transfer, product registration, and process scale-up.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the conception and development of formulations for agricultural, pharmaceutical, personal care, or related industries.

 

What You Will do:

Formulation Technology Leader and HTP and Lab Automation subject matter expert makes key decisions regarding their respective research projects that will have both immediate and long-term impact to the business and to formulation design and development. Curiosity, Critical thinking and Collaboration are required to be successful in this individual contributor role. A high degree of initiative is required, to enact change and continuous improvement.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, acquisition and group integration/implementation of high throughput and lab automation tools that drive significant improvement in the screening and evaluation of coformulants and formulation to deliver superior formulation performance.
  • Apply broad lab automation expertise and advanced data analytical tools to explore and establish predictive tools to better understand long-term formulation and application performance and reduce the development risks.
  • Lead the development of formulation lab automation research program and drive the incorporation of new high throughput capabilities and predictive tools into the development practices of formulation scientists globally.
  • Drive alignment and science/data-based decisions and action plans across multi-functional teams.
  • Ability to teach and train scientists in the field of formulation science and lab automation with hands on experience and examples.
  • Collaboration with other functions across the company to deliver maximum success, such as analytical R&D, process development, application technology, biology, agronomy, regulatory, operations and commercial teams.
  • Partner with Global Product Science and Technology Leadership team to develop and execute a 5- to 10-year technology plan for next-generation formulation product development capabilities and expertise with strong focus on HTP and digitalization strategy.
  • Stay abreast of new discoveries and technologies in HTP and automation in formulation and delivery system technologies.
  • Develop proprietary technology positions for Corteva Agriscience through partnership with external companies or universities, competitive analysis, in-licensing, as well as development of new differentiated intellectual property.
  • Working safely, in full observance of company safety and environmental plans and policies and fostering a strong commitment to safety and overall environmental responsibility.

 

What Skills You Need:

  • Bachelors /Masters/PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related fields.
  • PhD. with a minimum 2 years related experience.
  • Master/Bachelor with a minimum 5 years related experience.
  • Extensive expertise and experience in the design and implementation of High Throughput workflow and lab automation tools is required.
  • Extensive experience with the design and development of formulations is highly desired. 
  • Experience working with microbial actives and HTP microbial enumeration method development is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience in data analytical tools and the development of performance predictive modeling is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with global and cross-functional teams, including research & development, commercial, technical, supply, manufacturing and regulatory components.
  • Track record of new product/technology development towards meeting customer needs and using a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving and opportunity development.   
  • Strong project and technical leadership skills and ability to balance multiple projects on different timelines for stakeholders across the business.
