Job Description:

Corteva Agriscience has an opportunity in Waimea, Kaua'i, Hawai'i, to lead horticultural operations in the Population Development Group. The Horticultural Supervisor is responsible for shadehouses and associated areas cultivating maize and other crops, ensuring that work is performed effectively, efficiently, and safely. The position coordinates and oversees activities to ensure that the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables are met in support of breeding programs globally. Candidates must have knowledge of plant biology, experience with horticulture or agriculture, and be able to manage people. You will need a collaborative attitude, good communication and critical thinking skills, and a knack for creative problem solving. This position supervises a team through line managers, coordinates activities with other departments or groups, and has a leadership role in the overall management of the group and station.

$2,500 SIGN ON BONUS!

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee all shadehouse operations, including:

    • Plant nutrition, irrigation, and pest management.

    • Planting, transplanting, pollination, and harvesting of materials.

    • Operation and maintenance of horticultural equipment and facilities.

  • Apply genotypic and phenotypic data to ensure the correct plants are selected for crossing/selfing.

  • Coordinate with Core Group to ensure smooth workload management and efficient capacity use.

  • Supervise, evaluate, and mentor reports, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with protocols and regulations.

  • Organize daily activities, including labor.

  • Keep databases up-to-date.

  • Proactively communicate and coordinate with team, stakeholders, and internal customers.

  • Design and implement process improvements.

  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules, holidays, and weekends during peak periods when required.

  • Support all Hawaii Research Center goals and support other projects when needed.

What Skills You Need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, agronomy, horticulture, plant breeding, or related plant-science field.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Alternatively, equivalent levels of relevant education and experience.
  • Horticulture or plant biology and physiology.
  • Experience and knowledge of growing crops from seed to harvest in a pot.
  • Knowledge of Mendelian and molecular genetics.
  • Computer competency: tablets, PCs, Microsoft Office, internal programs, etc.
  • Comfort with large datasets, and the management and analysis of data.
  • Eager to constantly evaluate, innovate, and improve processes.
  • Ability to manage people effectively as part of a larger, culturally diverse group.
  • Organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Tolerance, willingness, and ability to work in warm or cold conditions and variable environments.
  • Valid driver's license.

The salary range for this position is $105,000.00 to $130,000.00.

This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
