As a Field Testing Specialist you will plan and execute the safe and efficient day-to-day management of cotton product development trials at the Cairo, GA Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of planting, growing, phenotyping, and harvesting research materials to meet pre-commercial product advancement and data quality goals. You will adopt and implement evolving technologies and methodologies that enhance and improve product development.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide agronomic support for all cotton research trials.  Frequently visit research trials to determine agronomic needs and make recommendations.

  • Operate agricultural equipment to maintain high quality cotton trials, including but not limited to planters, sprayers and harvest equipment.

  • Assist in experiment initiation and seed filling activities.

  • Use technology, including iPads and various software tools to collect, evaluate and distribute data following detailed protocols.

  • Summarize experiments, manage and analyze data.

  • Serve as a point of contact for cotton research trial cooperators.  Effectively communicate timelines, in-season plans and quickly resolve any issues that may arise.

  • Lead in site safety culture and ensure adherence to safety standards.

  • Maintain or improve efficient daily workplace operations.

  • May serve on teams appropriate to specific research project.

  • Periods of extended work hours and overnight travel during planting and harvest will be required.  Some additional travel may be necessary.

What Skills You Need:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in agriculture or scientific field with 5+ years. Experience in agronomy, Biology, Plant Breeding or a scientific-related field

  • Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling of large volumes of data will be required.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.

  • Supervisory Skills: Demonstrated people management experience with the ability to teach and coach employees. Ability to work under minimum supervision, efficient time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Results Driven: Demonstrated problem solving skills, strategic analysis, and communication skills. Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Strong Agronomy Background: Ability to scout crops and make recommendations based on findings.

  • Strong Farming Practices: Knowledge of general farming practices. Ability to operate agricultural equipment and be able to move between different pieces of equipment throughout the season.

  • Mechanical Ability: General knowledge to be able to diagnose and solve most mechanical failures while in season and during off-season maintenance.
