Job description:

Crop Health Research and Development, Integrated Field Sciences (CHRD, IFS), Field Scientist / Tokyo-Japan

Purpose:

Conducts and manages trials to characterize the field performance of crop protection chemistries/biologicals in line with technical objectives provided by the regional/global teams and pertinent company stewardship guidelines. Summarizes data at the local level and contributes to regional and global field data summaries in line with field research process. Provides local knowledge on crop management practices, issues and trends to CHRD, IFS teams as well as local commercial organizations. Support field demo trials and technical presentation to commercial team for successful product launches as part of a cross-functional team in Japan. Reports to JKANZ Field Science leader.

Interacts with:

CHRD IFS  JKANZ Leader, CPD&D IBFS Global/Regional biology leaders (G/RBLs), Brand managers, Regulatory specialist, Global/Regional Program Leaders and APAC Tech Education leader. May also interact with Technical Portfolio Strategy Leaders & Area Marketing Manager team. External interactions include contract research organizations, JPPA researchers, field researchers in local governments, researchers in universities & national research institutes.

Skills:

l  Broad scientific and agronomic understanding and leadership, good understanding of trial designs and goals.

l  MAg/MSc or higher in Entomology, Pathology, Weed Science, Agricultural Sciences or related area with > 5-years practical research experience. (agricultural industries preferable)

l  Versatile individual who can solve practical problems in sometimes remote locations and is committed to a strong safety and stewardship culture.

l  Ability to interact with researchers/growers and to give clear directions.

l  Leadership skill to work in cross-functional team.

l  Good command of English as well as Japanese.

Key responsibilities:

l  Accountable for flawless field trial execution: Selecting sites based on technical objectives, understanding and writing of protocols, securing evaluation agreements, forecasting sample needs and organizing local shipments of test items. Accountable for exact planting, applications and evaluations as well reliable upload of data to pertinent data bases.

l  Summarizes data from own trials as well as data from other field researchers and provides key observations and recommendations on product performance to the Program Leader in IFS and cross functional product development teams.

l  Prepares the biology dossier to support product registration/label expansion applications based on JPPA bio-efficacy data.

l  Assists RBLs in strategy of local data generation for discovery, pipeline and existing products to ensure optimal technical value propositions for final products.

l  Measures and documents field performance, understands resistance issues, and identifies trends and issues relative to current and emerging competition in the assigned territory. Proposes technical positioning to the Portfolio Leadership Management Teams based on local needs and requirements in the assigned territory.

l  Serves as a technical focal point & experts for mainly insecticide products and crops in Japan, and supports cross functional team in insecticides from technical perspective.

l  Represents Corteva at relevant academic and government institutes and documents emerging trends and technology related to agriculture.

l  Provides input on the critical assessment and prioritization of technical needs and activities essential to the implementation of business strategy.

l  Focal point for local country/CU and R&D functions pertaining to technical issues/ queries related to the assigned products.

l  Works as Corteva representative in JCPA, IRAC and related activities.

Location & travels:

This role will be based in Tokyo. Travel will be required to visit trial locations, conference, relevant industry events & internal meetings/trainings.
