Corteva is seeking to hire a Field Scientist in Manitoba, Canada. The Field Scientist (FS) will coordinate day to day field research operations for Crop Health Research & Development encompassing seed applied technology, fertility enhancement, and crop protection research projects at internal and off-site locations in Manitoba.  The FS will be expected to execute field experiments concurrently at multiple locations; collect, manage, and report data for the characterization and advancement of Corteva technologies. In addition, the FS will have responsibility for multidisciplinary research, providing technical support to the local sales team, developing collaborations with the research community in Manitoba, and partnering cross-functionally to advance and launch our new product concepts.

What You'll Do:

  • The Field Scientist will coordinate execution of research protocols across multiple locations at internal and off-site locations. The FS will execute day to day activities to ensure high quality data collection from field trials designed to characterize the efficacy and safety of new technologies.  The FS will serve as the key regulatory contact, leading compliance activities and building registration dossiers.      
  • Flawlessly execute experiments to completion, according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, the knowledge of general agronomic practices, pesticide application and evaluation procedures, farm equipment operation (tillage, planting, spraying, harvest, etc.) crop scouting, implementation of new technologies, computer skills, and skills in experimental design and analysis.  Use Corteva proprietary software for initiation, mapping, tracking and analysis of experiments, and communicate data and information as appropriate to all managers of experiments.   
  • Hires, trains and mentors post-secondary students and contractors to assist with implementation of the field program. 
  • Summarizes and analyzes data, sharing observations with stakeholders to support the characterization and advancement of new products.
  • Organizes field tours upon request and selects appropriate trials to support decision making in a regional/global trial program.
  • Measures and documents field performance, understands resistance issues, and identifies current and emerging trends and issues in the region.  Proposes and shares technical positioning as part of cross functional product development teams.
  • Serves as the biology lead and technical subject matter expert on cross functional product development teams comprised of Marketing, Sales, Regulatory, Formulation and Supply chain leaders.
  • Collaborates with the Regulatory team to summarize field data and author reports for the Canadian PMRA to register new active ingredients and product use patterns.
  • Provides input on the critical assessment and prioritization of technical needs and activities essential to the implementation of business strategy.
  • Establish and maintain research relationships with University, government, extension and consultant cooperators.
  • Identify new business opportunities for Corteva Agriscience, keep abreast of market trends, and influence development of new products.
  • Develop and maintain key contacts within the technical community (university, extension, federal and state agencies, natural resource non-governmental organizations, and industry/commodity associations).
  • Provide direct technical support to the Corteva Agriscience commercial team.
  • Promote proper use of Corteva Agriscience products through development and delivery of product stewardship programs.

What Skills You Need:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Molecular Biology, Soil Science, Agronomy or related Biological Science.

Preferred Skills:

  • PhD or higher in Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Molecular Biology, Soil Science, Agronomy or related Biological Science.
  • In-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of agricultural science.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting and publishing refereed research.
  • A working knowledge of agronomic production practices, crop protection, biostimulants, biotechnology, molecular biology and/or plant genetics.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to transfer technology through scientific presentation and publication.  Comfortable engaging and interacting with internal (marketing, sales, regulatory) and external (producers, academics, consultants) stakeholders.  Experience in managing research staff and a proven track record of operating in a complex team environment.
  • Practical knowledge of education techniques and experience transferring technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent computer, data management, statistical analysis, and data presentation skills.
  • Understanding of product needs for North American markets.
