Corteva Agriscience is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee our Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) station in Palmas, Brazil. This role is critical to enabling innovation, as it ensures that new genetic materials for research and development can enter the country safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. We are seeking a professional with strong expertise in molecular plant pathology tools who is passionate about using science to protect plant health and accelerate agricultural discovery. The PEQ Lead will serve as the connection point between regulatory agencies, Corteva s global R&D teams, and local operations, playing a vital role in delivering high-quality seed for research while shaping the future of agriculture in Brazil.
Key Responsibilities:
PEQ Leadership & Operations:
Lead the Post Entry Quarantine, define goals, set priorities, and supervise overall operations.
Serve as the principal investigator at PEQ, solving complex phytosanitary problems.
Assure full implementation of biosafety standards and compliance with internal and external requirements.
Team Development & Process Excellence:
Lead the operational team, providing training on quarantine best practices.
Implement opportunities to improve workflows, methods, and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Foster a strong safety culture, actively engaging in EHS&S programs at the Palmas Research Center.
Molecular Diagnostics & Innovation:
Apply and oversee molecular diagnostic tools (PCR, qPCR, real-time PCR, sequencing) for pathogen detection.
Investigate, develop, and validate new molecular methods and technologies to improve quarantine protocols.
Ensure rapid, accurate data turnaround for seed release decisions.
Regulatory & External Engagement:
Act as Corteva s focal point for interactions with Brazilian phytosanitary agencies (MAPA/DSV).
Establish strong collaboration with Corteva s regulatory teams (in and out of Brazil) to ensure compliance with governmental and corporate requirements.
Prepare technical reports, traceability records, and documentation for internal and external audits.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Interact, collaborate, and build strong connections with local and global germplasm movement teams to execute Corteva s strategies and phytosanitary standards.
Be an active member of the Palmas leadership team, fully engaged in Research Center activities.
Collaborate across cross-functional teams to forecast demand, plan resources, and manage timelines effectively.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor s degree in Agronomy, Biology, or related fields.
Master s degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology, or related fields (Ph.D. preferred).
Experience:
Hands-on experience in Plant Pathology is required.
Strong background in molecular biology applied to plant disease diagnostics.
Demonstrated experience with plant pathogen assays and seed health testing.
Knowledge of Brazilian phytosanitary legislation, quarantine pests, and biosafety standards.
Proven ability to manage laboratory or PEQ operations and lead technical teams.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and compliance-driven profile.
Ability to manage multiple importations simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in Portuguese and English.
Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively.
Innovative, resourceful, and proactive in problem-solving.
Solid knowledge of data analysis, computer systems, and laboratory software tools.
Valid driver s license (Category B).
Reside in Palmas or Porto Nacional, Tocantins is required.
