The Agronomy Technician supports the agronomy efforts that are necessary to produce high-quality seeds for the global agricultural enterprise. The Agronomy Technician will execute irrigation and nutrition plans, perform basic maintenance, and assess inventory of irrigation/nutrition equipment. He/she will also be responsible for recording irrigation and nutrition data per planted parcel. Additionally, the Agronomy Technician shall operate all equipment related to irrigation/nutrition like fertigation tanks, pumps and valves. The Agronomy Technician shall have ample knowledge of drip irrigation systems, assembling and inspection.
What You'll Do:
The Agronomy Technician will be responsible for executing irrigation activities including but not limited to: Soil sampling of all fields, assembling and detaching irrigation system, irrigating and fertigation (handling of liquid fertilizer) according to schedule, keep track of application schedule, irrigation and fertigation system maintenance, parts and equipment inventories, maintenance, and cleaning, field volunteering activities, scouting fields for water stress and nutrient deficiencies, recommending improvements on irrigation and fertility programs.
Organization and cleanliness of vehicles, equipment, fields, and storage areas.
Must be proficient in the Corteva farm irrigation systems and be able to make the necessary repairs.
Scout fields for nutritional deficiencies and take detailed notes/data.
The Agronomy Technician will serve as a backup for IPM, land preparation, and land planning.
The Agronomy Technician will be responsible for following supervisor's instruction and protocols, taking irrigation notes and recording data, participating in process improvement plans and initiatives, reporting to supervisors in timely manner.
The Agronomy Technician conducts all activities in a safe manner following state and federal laws and Corteva safety standards, participating in team meetings. The Agronomy Technician accepts training on proper operation of all equipment.
The Agronomy Technician is required to assist in any other tasks not listed in this job description assigned by supervisors and support other agronomy areas such as field scouting, IPM, planting and cultivating, and land preparation.
Ability to read and interpret irrigation/field maps for special instructions, partial water offs, and side dressing granular fertilizer.
What Skills You Need:
High school diploma and 0 to 2 years of related experience required, or equivalent amount of relevant education and experience.
Self-motivated, takes initiative, and the ability to work independently without constant supervision
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate, maintain, and repair irrigation equipment.
Organization and time management skills
Computer skills (world, excel) and proficient in the use of Smartphone's.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate, read, and interpret instructions in English.
Tolerance and ability to work in an outdoor tropical agriculture setting in various field conditions.
Able to work under flexible schedule (including weekends) based on the business needs.
Tolerance and ability to repeatedly stand and walk and work on their feet, stoop, bend, keel, or crouch for prolonged periods of time.
Participate in improvement programs (safety, efficiency, effectiveness) specific to lab, field, or greenhouse environments to identify and communicate potential risks and benefits.
Promotes a positive work attitude
Valid driver's license.
Valid CMV license or ability to obtain CMV license within 3 months.
Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
