JOB SUMMARY:

This posting is for an Open Rank Extension Position which will be classified in one of the following (UK41-Extension Associate, UK39-Master Extension Associate, or UK65-Asstant Extension Specialist) depending on education and experience.

The selected candidate will work cooperatively with county and state staff to plan, teach, and evaluate Extension educational programs in the area of consumer horticulture and coordinate statewide aspects of the South Carolina Master Gardener Volunteer (SCMGV) Program. Train Extension agents, volunteers, and other stakeholders about consumer horticulture topics. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

60% - Essential - (UK41) Collaborate with subject experts, agents, and volunteers to coordinate and deliver new consumer horticulture programming and resources to address emerging needs in South Carolina. Coordinate, manage, and evaluate the South Carolina Master Gardener Volunteer program at the statewide level. Provide training and support to local Master Gardener coordinators, agents, and program assistants and coordinate advanced Master Gardener volunteer training.

(UK39) Develop and implement a statewide consumer horticulture programming plan of work. Collaborate with subject experts, agents, and volunteers to coordinate and deliver new consumer horticulture programming and resources to address emerging needs in South Carolina. Coordinate, manage, and evaluate the South Carolina Master Gardener Volunteer program at the statewide level. Provide training and support to local Master Gardener coordinators, agents, and program assistants and coordinate advanced Master Gardener volunteer training.

(UK65) Develop and implement a statewide consumer horticulture programming plan of work. Collaborate with subject experts, agents, and volunteers to coordinate and deliver new consumer horticulture programming and resources to address emerging needs in South Carolina and for the Southeastern Region. Coordinate, manage, and evaluate the South Carolina Master Gardener Volunteer program at the statewide level and collaborate with national Master Gardener program efforts. Provide training and support to local Master Gardener coordinators, agents, and program assistants and coordinate advanced Master Gardener volunteer training.

20% - Essential - (UK41) Establish yourself as a content expert by producing and disseminating scholarly outputs and products (publications, videos, expert presentations, validated evaluation instruments, applied research outputs, etc.) that support consumer horticulture and the SCMGV program. Serve as a resource to Extension agents and clientele within SC.

(UK39) Establish yourself as a content expert n the Southeastern region by producing and disseminating scholarly outputs and products (publications, videos, expert presentations, validated evaluation instruments, applied research outputs, etc.) that support consumer horticulture and the SCMGV program. Serve as a resource to Extension agents and clientele within the Southeastern US.

(UK65) Establish yourself as a content expert at the National level by producing and disseminating scholarly outputs and products (publications, videos, expert presentations, validated evaluation instruments, applied research outputs, etc.) that support consumer horticulture and the SCMGV program. Serve as a resource to Extension agents and clientele within the US.

10% - Essential - (UK41) Collaborate with horticulture team members, statewide program efforts (Home & Garden Information Center, School & Community Gardening program, Making It Grow, South Carolina Botanical Garden, etc.), and other Extension program teams in program development and delivery. Responsible for program resource development and management.

(UK39) Collaborate with horticulture team members, statewide program efforts (Home & Garden Information Center, School & Community Gardening program, Making It Grow, South Carolina Botanical Garden, etc.), and other program teams in program development and delivery. Responsible for resource development, management, and sustainability to support Extension educational programming to include grants, contracts, legal agreements, gifts, in-kind support, sponsorships, revenue generated, local and state appropriated funds and/or other types of funding.

(UK65) Collaborate with horticulture team members, statewide program efforts (Home & Garden Information Center, School & Community Gardening program, Making It Grow, South Carolina Botanical Garden, etc.), and other program teams in program development and delivery. Collaborate with regional and national consumer horticulture programming efforts. Responsible for resource development, management, and sustainability to grow Extension educational programming to include grants, contracts, legal agreements, gifts, in-kind support, sponsorships, revenue generated, local and state appropriated funds and/or other types of funding.

15% - Essential - (UK41) Attend program specific, office, and Extension team meetings and trainings as assigned by supervisor. Identify and participate in opportunities for self-improvement and professional development such as professional and in-service trainings. Communicate effectively, both verbally and through written correspondence to Extension and program administrators.

(UK39) Attend or lead Extension team meetings and trainings as assigned by supervisor. Identify and participate in opportunities for self-improvement and professional development at the state and regional levels. Communicate effectively, both verbally and through written correspondence to Extension and program administrators.


(UK65) Attend or lead Extension team meetings and trainings as assigned by supervisor. Identify and participate in opportunities for self-improvement and professional development at the state, regional, and national levels. Communicate effectively, both verbally and through written correspondence to Extension and program administrators at the state and national levels.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Masters Degree (for UK4100, 3900, 3700)
  • UK4100- Minimum experience: Two years of demonstrated experience in educational program delivery, volunteer management, or similar. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • UK3900- Minimum experience: Five years of demonstrated experience in educational program delivery, volunteer management or similar. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated skills in effective program evaluation. Demonstrated resource development success in support of programming efforts.
  • UK3700- Minimum experience: Five years of demonstrated experience in educational program delivery, volunteer management or similar.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated resource development success in support of programming efforts.
  • Administrative/supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in team leadership and problem solving.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education - Doctoral / Professional Degree - horticulture or closely related field
  • Direct experience in Extension program development and evaluation
