  1. Your education is often paid for!

Many tradespeople go through an apprenticeship, which includes working while learning on the job, while being paid. You can start right out of high school and, in some cases, while you are still in high school!

Many companies and unions will cover the cost of tuition for their apprentice’s educational component, and if they don’t, the cost is a fraction of what a degree costs a student. Currently, the jobs that are most in demand are electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians. These three fields all involve an apprenticeship, which means you will be able to learn while being paid on the job.

Less classroom time is also required when compared to diplomas or degrees. Saving you time and money. When you go through with a skill trade, you won’t begin your career with a large amount of debt, you will begin with a strong set of skills and a job offer!

  1. All Skillsets are required.

Building methods now include models that don’t require the traditional stereotypes that skill trades people are all super strong and perform manual labour. There is a demand for those who come from IT backgrounds, project management programs, and transportation departments.

Agriculture is consistently hiring and growing Ag Technology…and it continues to evolve and grow based on technological advancements and new development. Technology related to computers, software, equipment, and processing. Think of anything from drones to scouting crops, robots to milking cows, and software that tracks data on a pig farm. Really any career with “computer” “it” “technology” tied to it, is expecting strong growth.

  1. Job satisfaction and security

Often, companies and unions provide great compensation for their employees. This coupled with the proud feeling you can share with others when showing off a building you may have helped construct, a roadway that was widened or repaired, or even a piece of equipment that was broken down and needed your special trades skill to get it working again, makes working in a skilled trade career very fulfilling.

Become very specialized within your trade of choice increases your opportunities and, in many roles, increases your rate of pay. There is time and money needed to become specialized, but it is well worth it in the end.
