You feel hot, your heart is racing, and you almost feel like you can’t take a full, deep breath… you are stressed out at work!

It’s not that you don’t love your job, but; it’s just that you feel so overwhelmed you don’t even know where to start- there is just so much. Even getting started just sounds so daunting. What is most important? Where do I begin?

Does any of this sound familiar? Have you ever been stressed out at work before? Well, you certainly are not alone.

When polling AgCareers.com social media followers, they said they prevent stress at work by:

· 35% listen to music.

· 27% take a walk.

· 23% keep a to-do list.

· 15% take a coffee/ snack break.

Here are some additional methods to maintain a stress-free work life!

1. Prioritize your tasks.

It sounds easier said than done, right? When you have so many things to do, you don’t even know where to start, which can feel very overwhelming. Meet with your manager or supervisor and ask them for guidance on prioritizing your tasks.

Try to do your most difficult or focused tasks at the point in the day when you are most motivated. I always try to do my most demanding task first thing in the morning, since that is when I have the most energy and motivation!

2. Find out what is stressing you out.

If you can pinpoint the things that are stressing you out, you may be able to rearrange them or ask for some guidance on how to make them more manageable. Having an open line of communication with your team may really help with this. A task that is causing you an overwhelming sense of anxiety might be a walk in the park for another team member!

3. Block out time and set boundaries.

Sometimes it’s not even the task or the work itself that can cause stress, but the amount of time or the lack of time that does. When I know I will have a very busy day with meetings and still have a lot of tasks to get done, I will put my Teams on “Do Dot Disturb,” set a timer for a certain amount of time and just WORK! This really helps me dial in, focus, and get a lot done.

4. Relax & re-energize.

When you are so busy and overwhelmed, the idea of even stepping away from your desk sounds like just more stress and anxiety, but it really can be the break your mind needs.

Grab a coffee, take a walk outside, or make a snack. I guarantee you will feel better than you did before. This can be a great way to alleviate tension or just recharge!

Next time you feel stressed or overwhelmed at work, try these four tips a try to keep your work life stress-free!
