Responsibilities: The Canadian Tobacco Research Foundation (CTRF) has an open position in its technical research department. This position will oversee all aspects of an existing applied and basic research programs for flue-cured tobacco production situated in Southwestern Ontario.
The candidate will collaborate with our research team to conduct experiments aimed at improving:
• Plant traits through breeding techniques
• Conduct hands-on work in both field and laboratory settings
• Assist in the development and implementation of breeding strategies to enhance crop performance and resilience.
• Contribute to the maintenance and management of plant breeding and protection materials and databases.
Requirements:
• A degree in plant Breeding, Plant Biology, Agronomy, or a related field.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work independently in a dynamic research environment.Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in plant breeding techniques, including crossing, selection, and evaluation. • Knowledge in molecular biology techniques.
• Previous experience working in an academic or industry setting focused on plant breeding or genetics.
• Familiarity with software applications commonly used in plant breeding and genomics research.
• Understanding of agricultural practices and challenges, particularly related to crop improvement.
