YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to: 

  • Independently design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments for a desired outcome under the guidance of a mentor ;
  • Prepare biological samples for mass spectrometry-based analysis;
  • Develop/revise protocols and assays using biological samples including samples with a complex matrix;
  • Perform LC-MS analysis of prepared samples;
  • Develop a protocol for the analysis of relevant biological systems focused on the characterization of protein structure and protein-protein interactions and interpret results to aid in delivering the pipeline;
  • Document protocols in detail for all workflows and ensure knowledge transfer Protein Analytics (PA) team members;
  • Collaborate with PA team members and other Bayer stakeholders to deliver results;
  • Comply with all safety, stewardship, and IT/information security policies and regulations;
  • Present final project/findings to the team and other stakeholders upon completion of the Co-op position.

WHO YOU ARE 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: 

 Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be registered and currently enrolled in a graduate program—Ph.D or MS;
  • Pursuing a degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or related areas;
  • Prior experience in mass spectrometry; including sample preparation, operation, troubleshooting, and data analysis using vendor software (Proteome Discoverer and PEAKS).

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in probing/characterizing protein epitopes and protein- protein interactions using mass spectrometry methods;
  • Demonstrated dedication and focus to efficiently use problem- solving skills to address outstanding, complex, and/or difficult biological questions;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
