Operations Lead Nursery 

 

This role is responsible for leading the Juana Diaz nursery operations to accelerate the development of elite germplasm and traits along the soy and cotton R&D pipeline. This includes planting, trait assay, plant selection, pollination, harvesting, and data management operations. The role will also fill the roles of Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach for the operational teams at the Juana Diaz site to achieve the team’s mission and outcomes linked to product goals and customer value.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Operations Lead Nursery are to: 

  • Responsible for reliable delivery of the soy and cotton nursery operations that impact the R&D pipeline;
  • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to innovate and create strategies that constantly optimize capabilities within the Nursery operations. This includes data analysis, automation, and systems integration; 
  • Direct internal planning and execution with operational groups;
  • Utilization of metrics and innovation to ensure operations meet targets, timelines, and quality while adhering to federal, state, and local laws and full compliance with corporate HSE and Regulatory policies;
  • Develop business continuity plans for Nursery operations, including, but not limited to, import/export delays, labor shortages, safety stock of key resources, weather, and pandemic events;
  • Leads complex operations, including cross-functional and multi- discipline functions, by collaborating with partners to ensure Bayer's business success;
  • Develops technical capabilities and infrastructure as services to customer and product teams;
  • Work with IT teams to deploy new platforms supporting nursery automation and data management;
  • Reliably deliver experimental data and seeds for soy and cotton in the global Crop Science R&D organization. Includes meeting seed targets, timelines, and quality while adhering to federal, state, and local laws in full compliance with corporate HSE and Regulatory policies Set strategic direction, execute operational workflows, define performance metrics, and conduct reviews with Breeding and Biotech partners; 
  • Co-creates across the site and stakeholder's networks on business, product, and customer strategies;
  • Empowered to determine the resources needed for operations, allocation, and flow of resources to and within the operations while generating value by flowing resources and talent to support critical mission and process improvement objectives that increase effectiveness and customer satisfaction;
  • Partner with TSI & PSP Planning, JD’s Site Enablement, and Corporate’s IT to develop and monitor key performance indicators for all workflows;
  • Provide leadership and training to ensure full compliance with Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) procedures, Quality Management Systems, Regulatory agencies, and other Bayer policies and protocols Oversee all aspects of Field/GH Nurseries operations, manage plant health, and apply cutting-edge technologies to ensure sustainable and energy-efficient plant production;
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the different processes in automation technology, including seed preparation, planting, field plot management, data collection, harvesting,seed processing, and environmental controls;
  • Ensure capabilities, skills, and mindsets are developed for all team personnel to create solutions and enhance the experience of customers;
  • Empower, support, and create accountability within the teamand contribute to delivering defined outcomes for all product, customer, and stakeholder needs;
  • Responsible for operational financial performance, including executing capital and expense projects;

 

WHO YOU ARE-

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Agriculture; 
  • Creates an environment of innovation and experimentation that delivers solutions customers need;
  • Experience with expense and capital budget planning and management;
  • Team leadership skills, including excellent influencing, organizational and record-keeping skills;
  • Good written and oral communication skills for effective interaction and representation of Breeding and Bayer values internally and externally with various groups;
  • Ability to promote cross-functional collaborations with Breeding internally and externally;
  • Fluent in Spanish and English language, written and conversational;
  • Valid driver’s license to be eligible to drive a company car;
  • Demonstrated experience in a creative mindset, Visionary, Architect;

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Agriculture, Engineering, Occupational Safety, Quality, or a related field with at least 8+ years of experience in leadership roles;

 

Relocation may be available for this role
