Role Tasks and Responsibilities

 

The Operations Guide is responsible for delivering technical leadership and coaching to on-site personnel. This position involves collaborating with local stakeholders to discern operational needs, prioritizing tasks, and delegating responsibilities to ensure the successful attainment of local seed production and field-testing objectives. The incumbent will continuously assess and implement advanced agricultural practices, maintain a robust network reflecting our customer base, and foster a site culture dedicated to environmental SSHE, regulatory compliance, and quality performance.  Additionally, the site Guide is accountable to maintaining world class facilities and equipment while maintaining reasonable budgetary expectations.

 

 

 

Key Tasks

 

  • Offers technical guidance and direction to on-site staff, including training on intricate research protocols and the development of operational plans for in-field activities.
  • Active member or coach on Product / Technical Unit teams contributing to the strategy and development of products in the associated pipeline.
  • Continuously assesses and enhances all agricultural practices and methods utilized by consumers in the region.
  • Creates site strategy for building a network that represents customers within the region.
  • Leads in establishing a site culture dedicated to the highest standards of environmental safety, health, regulatory compliance, and quality performance. Responsible for ensuring adherence to safety, compliance, and regulatory policies, including employee documentation and training standards, while developing and updating programs to align with evolving regulations.
  • Collaborates with other functions and team members as a project leader on regional projects, driving transformative change in field trial research through the integration of automation, technological innovation, system advancements, and the deployment of new tools.
  • Accountable for budget maintenance and forecasting, ensuring adherence to overall corporate and company financial targets, and the oversight of multi-million-dollar assets and capital projects.
  • Coordinates and leads activities within the surrounding community to foster positive community relations and outreach efforts.
  • Identifies, assesses, negotiates, and manages ongoing contractual relationships with landowners, equipment, or services essential for maintaining an ongoing R&D program.
  • Participates in the hiring, supervision, and onboarding of temporary and full-time support staff, conducting workforce planning to identify contingent labor based on operational needs.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of supplies, equipment, and materials required for field operations and research activities.

 

 

 

Key Working Relationships:

 

  • Customer focused with key local cooperator relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across R&D (Compliance, Field Solutions, Biotech, Regulatory, Production Research, Trait Quality), HSE, Stewardship, Market Development, Field Solutions, Climate, Product Supply, and other departments to ensure a clear understanding of expectations in order to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Work alongside Regional Leads and hub-level teams. 

 

 

 

Who You Are

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • HS degree plus 10 years internal experience accepted or a bachelor’s degree + 5 years as a minimum requirement.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain appropriate driver’s license for medium to heavy vehicle operation (>10,000lbs GCWR)
  • Demonstrated success in fostering site culture dedicated to environmental SSHE, regulatory compliance, and quality performance.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in driving technical strategy and operations.
  • Proven experience with a strong ability to collaborate with other functions and team members as a project leader on regional projects, driving transformative change in field trial research through the integration of automation, technological innovation, system advancements, and the deployment of new tools.
  • High business acumen of the North American Breeding and R&D pipeline
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Excels in an agile, fast-paced work environment
     

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • MS in Agronomy or related field
  • Experience in Breeding and North America Market Segments
