The ESG Investment Director will be responsible for leading strategic initiatives that align financial and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives within the food and agriculture sector. This senior leadership role requires a strong understanding of sustainable finance, investor engagement, and ESG reporting frameworks, along with exceptional communication and leadership skills.

 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and execution of impactful investment strategies that align with our vision in the Crop Science division;
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with ESG factors in agriculture investments;
  • Investor Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to attract capital for regenerative agriculture initiatives, fostering strong relationships with project-related investors;
  • Tailored Communication: Craft impactful tools—such as webinars and reports—that effectively showcase the sustainability impact of our initiatives and engage stakeholders in the sustainable finance arena;
  • Proficient Advocacy: Utilize your deep understanding of sustainable finance principles to articulate business initiatives to investors, internal and external stakeholders compellingly;
  • Stakeholder Trust: Build and maintain trust among stakeholders through transparent communication and effective reputation management, enhancing our brand as a responsible leader in the industry;
  • Market Analysis: Collaborate with corporate teams to analyze financial trends and shareholder issues, enhancing our position with ESG rating agencies and regenerative agriculture frameworks;
  • Partnership Development: Formulate partner relations strategies for our initiatives aligned with external sustainable finance & ESG frameworks, ensuring clear communication of these strategies to internal and external audiences.

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of ESG principles, reporting frameworks, and regulatory requirements;
  • Thorough understanding of sustainability standards, frameworks, and international requirements, with experience in executing materiality assessments;
  • Proven track record of successful investor engagement and capital attraction in sustainable finance;
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders;
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and trends;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in sustainable finance projects, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive results, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or post-graduation degree in a relevant field (e.g., sustainability, environmental science, business administration); advanced degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in sustainability reporting, ESG analysis, or related fields, preferably in the food and agriculture sector.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $170,666.94 to $256,000.40.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
