We are looking for an EHS Specialist III to join our Performance Materials team in Clemson, SC.

We are seeking a professional like you to serve as Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist at the Clemson, SC chemical manufacturing facility.

In this role, you will support the Clemson site in all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities while also serving as the Site Security Representative. You will report directly to the PMN EHS Director and have a dotted line to the Clemson Site Manager. As a member of the Performance Materials EHS Community, you will collaborate with EHS experts and professionals who support BASF's North American sites and businesses.

Your primary responsibilities will focus on maintaining compliance with the site's Conditional Major air permit, NPDES, and hazardous waste programs. Additionally, you will oversee compliance in other program areas, including the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan, and EPCRA/SARA reporting. A key focus will be leading the responsible management of corporate, federal, state, and local safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.

As a Senior EHS Specialist I, you create chemistry by...

  • Leveraging your effective communication skills to develop strong working relationships with employees, the EHS community, and regulatory agencies/third parties, serving as a positive change agent within the organization.
  • Utilizing your knowledge of Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental disciplines to develop and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures for the site.
  • Drawing upon your experience in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental management, and Emergency Response program management in a manufacturing environment to lead and participate in risk assessments, accurately addressing identified deficiencies.
  • Providing both tactical and strategic guidance to site leadership on critical EHS issues, ensuring adherence to corporate EHS policies and procedures, including the Responsible Care® Management Systems.
  • Creating training content and, where appropriate, delivering training or coaching, facilitating the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and best practices across the BASF EHS organization.
  • Prioritizing issues and opportunities to drive the continuous improvement of EHS processes and systems.
  • Utilizing your strong organizational skills to identify and monitor key performance indicators within your area of responsibility, making necessary adjustments to improve EHS performance.
  • Leading and participating in project reviews, process hazard analyses, and change management processes, ensuring all internal and external reporting requirements are met through your solid analytical and computer skills.
  • Being a role model and collaborating with hourly employees to reinforce a culture of behavior-based safety and support emergency response activities.
  • Ensuring that the site maintains compliance with BASF and regulatory requirements in your capacity as the Site Security Representative and serving as the primary contact for the contract security agency.


If you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • Hold five (5) years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Are able to work independently under broad goals and objectives with minimal guidance.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have experience with Safety Management Systems and Environmental Reporting (strongly preferred)
