Global Direct and Logistics Procurement (GPD) oversees the strategic procurement of raw materials and logistics services for the BASF Group worldwide. Within this framework, Direct Procurement Americas (GPD/N) manages the procurement of raw materials for BASF sites across the Americas. This includes over 100 regionally managed categories such as power, sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, amines, and plastic additives. The team also optimizes the procurement of raw materials via distribution partners and negotiates contract manufacturing agreements.
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Regional Category Buyer to manage procurement activities for railcars and associated maintenance contracts across North America. The ideal candidate will possess strong business acumen, proven experience in strategic sourcing and supplier management, and preferably a background in railcar procurement, leasing, or rail logistics. This role is critical in delivering cost-effective, timely, and high-quality services that support our logistics operations.

Supporting the Regional Category Manager in developing and executing sourcing strategies.
Conducting market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the railcar category.
Leading and managing RFIs, RFPs, and contract negotiations with suppliers.
Fostering strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Collaborating cross-functionally with logistics, operations, and finance teams to align procurement strategies with business objectives.
Monitoring regulatory developments, tariffs, and transportation trends affecting rail and logistics.
Tracking and reporting cost savings, ensuring compliance with company procurement policies.
If you...
Have a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Posess minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management or logistics
Have experience in U.S. railcar procurement, leasing, or rail logistics (preferred)
Have strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Are an effective communicator and cross-functional collaborator.
Have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Pay transparency
BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $135,000 - $165,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
