As a Manager, Communications & Social Engagement you will compose and create comprehensive communication strategies that advance, protect, and enhance the voice of BASF Canada with relevant internal and external stakeholders. Internally, the Canadian Communication Manager will lead and execute a comprehensive employee communication plan that engages colleagues across Canada in our shared purpose. This is a 15-month contract role for a maternity leave backfill.

As a Manager, Communications & Social Engagement, you create chemistry by...

  • Leading the Corporate Communications team and serve as a member of the Americas Communications Leadership Team, driving the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies that align with the central goal of engaging our diverse stakeholders and amplifying BASF Canada's position as a sustainable and innovative industry leader. You will also craft, design and implement an internal and external communication strategies that will link our diverse employee-base to BASF Canada's overall purpose, vision, and executive narrative.
  • Strategizing, selecting and managing executive speaking and positioning opportunities for the Canadian Leadership Team, including the President, by crafting impactful speaking notes, presentations, talking points, among others.
  • Utilizing an integrated external communications approach, factoring in social media, public relations, earned and paid media and other disciplines to garner traction on topics like sustainability, innovation, government affairs/ policy and industry-related topics in partnership with the Hub. You will also monitor external market trends and identify opportunities to amplify BASF Canada externally as a sustainable and innovative industry leader across various businesses and segments.
  • Revising and editing all forms of tactical communication material, including press releases, media advisory, long-form editorial content, etc., that are required as part of the strategy.
  • Developing annual Canadian communication plans with business and functional leaders, leading the execution of the Social Engagement Strategy, driving and planning year-over-year employee engagement initiatives, and acting as the focal point for the transition of communication activities to the Hub.
  • Representing BASF Canada in technical communication groups at the regional level, influencing the decision-making process of communication activities and leveraging the results of the area.


If you have...

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Communications, Public Relations and/ or Media Studies, with equivalent blend of 10+ years' experience and proven success leading external communications, public relations efforts and issues management topics. The following experiences would be important:
    • Planning and implementing communications strategies and tactics that engage employees in a purpose-based workplace.
    • Designing and executing internal and external communication strategies that drive brand awareness with industry stakeholders, policy decision makers, customers, and relevant audiences, creating and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Developing proactive site community relations and communication plans in a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to write and edit a variety of communication pieces with unwavering attention to detail.
  • Ability to proactively and reactively managing crisis and issues management situations in a complex matrix environment.
  • Experience working with Diversity and Inclusion programs and initiatives.
  • Bilingual English / French is a plus
