Market Analyst

 

U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) has an opening for a Market Analyst position based in the Portland, Oregon office.

 

About USW: 

 

USW is the non-profit, export market development organization for the U.S. wheat industry, promoting the reliability, quality and value of all six U.S. wheat classes to wheat buyers, millers, bakers, food processors and government officials in more than 100 countries. Its mission is to "Develop, maintain, and expand international markets to enhance wheat's profitability for U.S. wheat producers and its value for their customers." Funding is made possible through checkoff dollars, goods and services from 17 state wheat commissions and cost-share grants from the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service.

 

The Market Analyst helps USW fulfill its mission by supplying in-depth analysis of global wheat production, trade and pricing, and regularly reporting relevant information to domestic and international stakeholders on a regular basis. The position offers visibility and contacts within the U.S. and international grain, flour milling and baking industries, including opportunities to make both written and oral presentations to varied audiences.

 

The position reports to the Vice President of Overseas Operations.

 

Specific tasks include:

  • Monitoring wheat market factors, pricing and logistics to keep USW staff informed of current developments.
  • Writing clear analyses of market developments for industry publications.
  • Producing weekly price and commercial export sales reports, monthly global wheat supply and demand updates, and other supporting materials.
  • Maintaining databases on U.S. and world wheat statistics, including production, consumption, trade and logistics.
  • Producing research projects or presentations as requested for other staff members, USW officers, and member states.
  • Supporting USW committees or working groups as assigned.
  • Travel to and participation in related overseas activities on occasion.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in agricultural economics (preferred), business or marketing, and/or relevant experience in the grain industry.
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Familiarity with MySQL is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated written, verbal and online communications skills (familiarity with WordPress a plus).
  • Strong people skills and an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude.
  • An interest in international trade and marketing with a willingness to travel domestically and overseas.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage projects independently.
  • Language skills are desirable.
