Position summary:

The Operations Lead oversees and participates in the daily operations of the grain elevator, providing direction and coordination for Commodity Operations staff involved in receiving, drying, storing, quality control, and transporting grains.

What you will do:
  • Train and supervise Commodity Operations staff and seasonal employees in operations and facility maintenance/upkeep.
  • Must gain working knowledge of all equipment and machinery
  • Coordinate repair/preventative maintenance work with crew
  • Communicate with grain originator and logistics personnel on grain movement
  • Ensure quality at production level meets or exceeds customer standards
  • Ensure that all team members have received and practice proper safety regulations, company policies, and procedures
  • Monitor grain condition, aeration, grain movement, cleaning operations, dryer operations, task assessments, and grain inventories
  • Oversee that all buildings, vehicles, equipment and grounds are maintained and repaired, including mowing grass and trimming brush
  • Ensure the work force is available to handle the daily needs of the elevator and are informed of daily duties
  • Keep management informed on technical developments and operating improvements within the elevator
  • Work with other locations to provide support for maintenance of equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you are:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • An associate or college degree (BA/BS in agriculture, manufacturing or relevant industry preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a supervisory role within the agriculture industry preferred
  • Able to understand and contribute to all functions in a grain and fertilizer operation
  • Knowledge of grain handling techniques, equipment, operations, and maintenance

Qualifications needed:
  • Able to drive and operate elevator equipment: Bobcat, forklift, front-end loader
  • Good communication skills with customers and fellow employees
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Time management/planning competencies
  • Proven track of management, supervision, and leadership
  • Strong agronomic competencies
  • Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • General maintenance skills
  • Commitment to develop a safe culture
  • Positive attitude and ability to motivate other team members
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement in operations and service levels

Physical requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to lift up to a maximum of 100lbs with assistance of other team members
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in high places
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in dusty conditions
  • Ability to work additional hours during Harvest seasons
