What your day looks like:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Garage Intern will support our fleet and maintenance team by assisting with administrative, system, and shop-support activities that help keep our rolling stock, equipment, and maintenance records organized, accurate, and audit-ready. This internship provides hands-on exposure to fleet operations, maintenance management systems, compliance documentation, and process improvement in a real-world shop environment. The role is ideal for a student interested in operations, logistics, maintenance, business systems, or industrial environments.

This program is open to students from all academic backgrounds and provides valuable insight into the inner workings of a modern manufacturing and agribusiness organization. Interns may rotate through different feed mills, functions and production locations within our network, gaining a comprehensive understanding of our operations and contributing to impactful initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Learning & Development
  • Learn how a fleet garage operates through job shadowing and hand-on support.
  • Gain exposure to maintenance management systems, preventative maintenance, and compliance requirements.

Maintenance System & Data Support
  • Assist with entering, reviewing, and organizing data in the maintenance management system.
  • Help ensure service records, equipment information, and work orders are accurate and up to date.
  • Support scanning, uploading, and labeling digital maintenance and inspection documents.

Project-Based Contributions
  • Assist with parts inventory counts and help maintain accurate stock records.
  • Support organizing and labeling the parts room for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Help track parts usage, reorder points, and inventory movement.
  • Assist with building and maintaining warranty tracking documentation and claim support files.
  • Support projects tied to the rollout and improvement of the maintenance system.
  • Help create Excel-based templates, workflows, and reference tools.
  • Assist with compiling KPIs, reports, or simple dashboards for leadership meetings.
  • Support audit documentation preparation for IFTA, NY HUT, EZ-Pass, and rolling stock audits

Teamwork & Professional Development
  • Work with garage staff, fleet leadership, and administrative partners and build professional relationships through collaboration and mentorship.
  • Build relationships with mentors and peers to foster a supportive learning environment.

Professional Growth
  • Present final projects, accomplishments, and reflections to the leadership team.
  • Receive feedback and coaching to support personal and professional development.

Perform other duties as assigned, based on interests and evolving business needs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Currently enrolled in a technical program, college or university, or recently graduated from high school
  • Interest in learning about fleet operations, maintenance, logistics, or business systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both shop and office environments
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with other digital tools is a plus.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to Wenger's Core Values.
  • Prior work or volunteer experience is helpful but not required.
